Brads E46 M3

  BMW 330ci
So I've finally been building myself up to the inevitable. I've had an e46 compact 316ti and my recent E46 330ci, so I've always been wanting to try the M3. I had thought of an E92 335i, but Ever since getting my 330 I've wanted to try an m3 and yes to some people it's may look like the same car but to me it's a totally different I think. And your only young once right.... so I've heard all the great reviews on them, and when I went out in my first one I was instantly determined to get one, the speed, the way it handles and of course so noise.

So I'd been searching for roughly just over 2 weeks, missed out on a few, went to look at a few which were just frankly not as advertised and were rubbish.

Was searching eBay just by chance due to being on nights and come across this one. Had only been up two hours ! Spoke to the guy, it's had 2 owners one was a bmw technician and the final one was a 40 year old who has clearly looked after it. The guy selling it had took it in px for a Porsche convertible...lucky guy. Spoke to the guy on the phone, and everything added up. FSH by dealer and specialists. Its had the dreaded subframe replaced by bmw. So I thought it was perfect. The paints looks inaccurate, no signs of rust he just said the wheels could do with a refurb. Guy seems like a genuine guy as he sells classic cars for a living, and just doesn't want this sitting around as he doesn't deal with them.

So the ad read as:

I have just taken this in PX today against one of my Classic Porsches.

Absolutely immaculate coachwork & equally pristine rare M-Texture Alcantara & Leather interior, seeing is believing

Specification;

. E46 M3 3.2
. 2004 (54 Plate)
. Only 2 owners
. SMG
. Silver Grey
. M -Texture Alcantara and half leather Interior with Gloss Black Trim
. 117k miles
. Full Service History (BMW & Specialist)
. MOT until May 17
. Electric Memory Seats with inflatable bolsters
. Aftermarket Sat Nav
. Bluetooth
. Polybushed Rear Suspension
. Upgraded JBL Speakers
. OEM Cupholders
. New Bonnet and Boot Badges
. Xenon Auto Lights and Auto Wipers

. The car is rust free.

. The car has very recently had a full oil change (including diff) and new spark plugs and filters at a BMW specialist.

. The car also has a pair of new rear coil springs and a brand new sub frame.

. The boot floor was replaced by BMW and inspected when the new subframe was installed.

. No problems with the SMG 'box

Points of interest :

. Front wheels need a refurb - lacquer bubbling and some kerbing marks

All seems perfect to me, I didn't ideally want alcantara seats but then I've not seen them very often and now I quite like the look of them. As there's no heated seats my bum won't be roasting or freezing cold. The seats don't look as though they've even been sat in. In fact the guy said someone had offered him £1000 plus his black leather.

He said he'd had 3 people message and I just knew as the price he had it up for to me its easily worth £10,000 so with that I left a £500 deposit and he's going to be delivering it to me in his race shuttle on Wednesday...going to be a very long day for me tomorrow.

Anyway pictures, only ones of his advert for now will update with more when it arrives Wednesday.

My plans at the minute is just to keep it absolutely mint. Don't think I'm going to make many changes on this, just keep it as it is. I say that now.... but I'd like to get an alcantara steering wheel with matching gaitors. A wheel Refurb. Then probably leave it at that just thoroughly enjoy every minute of being in an m3.

Hope you like.

Comments as always.

Nice, did you part ex your 330 for it?

Seats look good, not a fan of smg. Would rather manuel. Best colour for these imo

Very nice. If it's not got it already I heartily recommend the CSL rev-matching software mod for the DSG. It's awesome.

Honestly, you buy yourself an M3 and within a few days it seems like every other bugger is doing the same thing :D

Nice. I don't think I've EVER seen an M3 with those seats

+1 to the csl software. Martyn on M3cutters sells a magic program that unlocks all sorts of things too.

I'm based around Birmingham. No it's coming from Lancashire.

Lovely colour and it seams a nice purchase.
Good luck with it.
Thank you mate.

Looks very stealthy, i like it.
Thanks.

Yeah I need the csl software putting on just need to find someone near Birmingham. Do you know roughly how much it costs ?

It was all going well until SMG.

Either way, looks lovely mate.
Haha seems a few people are put off. I'm looking forward to it and enjoyed it when I test drive one.

Thanks.

Yeah I was unsure about the seats but seeing the exterior condition, maintenance and the price I couldn't refuse based on seats. But now I'm really keen would look nice with an alcantara steering wheel and gaiters.

That's really nice!

What sort of money are good ones commanding now?

Nice purchase mate..! I own one myself!

As people have already mentioned, the CSL software is worth doing from what I've heard.. personally went for the manual as I couldn't get on with SMG.

Keep it tidy and I doubt you'll loose much money, the good ones are defiantly holding their value!

Enjoy!

£8 to £9k seems to be the absolute bottom of the market for a good one. Tons of dogs around, and although they're relatively cheap to buy now they still aren't cheap to maintain - M tax :)

@Brad Smith Sorry but I don't know how much it costs, mine already had it on it along with a few other tweaks like the sport button remembering it's setting when you switch the car off.

Very nice. Do love an SG facelift.
Yeah I'm thinking of doing that tbh. Yeah me to best colour.

Thanks mate. I will say this cost me less than £8k. :)

Yeah hoping I won't lose any money on this better than having money in the savings.

I'll have to look at getting it sorted, seems like it is worth doing.

Start at £5k. About £10k sees you a good one. £80k for a CSL.
Ones I was looking at was between £7-8k hence why some of them were absolute dogs ! This has cost me just less than £8k. £7990 :)

Only thing that you can really argue needs modifying are the brakes. I like SMG but it can be a costly thing to fix.

Worst case you just convert it to manual though!

Do I put my bilstein Coilovers on this ? With original wheels. Maybe even go square set up.
Bilstein PSS10? I have clubsports on mine - they're incredible. I'd also recommend corner weighting if you want to maximise balance.

I have some BBS ch's 10J squares for sale at the minute, punt me a message if you want more details.

As others have said, CSL software update is needed on SMG and I'd also say a carbon airbox is vital for these.

EDIT - also program M track mode, it's a great upgrade to have.

Yeah maybe look at doing that in the long term.

And yeah that's true never thought of that.

Get the PSS10's on with adjustable top mounts, uprated anti roll bars make a huge difference to the front and understeer (almost as much difference as square/staggered setup).

Induction noise over exhaust noise for me and I've had 3 racing exhausts on my M3's..

M track mode is what the CS/CSL has from factory and all later facelift ECU's can have it programmed in. It allows for more tilt angle before traction control kicks in - it's less intrusive when driving fast and allows for a little slip.

Love it. It's one of those cars that I've always wanted to own. An exciting prospect compared to the modern day TDI hum drum stuff!

Yeah same for me always wanted to own one and I'm young enough no responsibilities so thought I'd get it while I can and enjoy it.
That's the way to do it, blow all your spare cash on what you want while you can, you might not be able to get what you really want later in life. I bought an Integrale when I was 21, no bloody chance now but I can say that I really wanted one and I enjoyed it for a couple of years.

  BMW 330ci
Exactly that at least I can say I've owned one and enjoyed it even if I keep it a year and sell it for the same I'll be happy to say I had one.

So got delivered today, wow is all I can say. A massive step up from my 330 obviously. Only been out in it for about half an hour due to having to work tonight. But I'm over the moon with it so far. Interior is really nice ! Will be giving it a clean tomorrow then will take some more pictures. Thinking I just need the csl software update. Which might be getting done Saturday. Guy was a genuinely nice guy glad to have purchased from him.

Just a comparison pic between my old 330

Lovely!
I've never seen one one with those seats in either! When I was looking at ads a while ago every ad would say 'nappa leather' but most of the time the seats looked different, and 99% of them had really saggy bases

F*ckin' 100K. CSL prices are getting seriously silly. I adore them, but 100k is madness.
Remember though, as we all know - asking is one thing, getting is another. It has probably been for sale for ages. Maybe they're hoping a collector will buy it.

That's pretty much my point, and why it's scary. It will likely sell for that lol. They've been rising for awhile now.
