Cambelt/Aux Belt - Spark Plugs

  Clio 182
Hi Guys, Just a quick question should the Cambelt & Aux belt be done at the same time?

The previous owner has had the cam belt but not the Aux. its 6 years old wih 31k on the clock.

If i get an Aux belt to be fitted will i need another cam belt as i was told the need to be done together.

Also what spark pugs are the best to use, they're in need of a change.

Hope you can help guys!

Spark plugs need to be NGK Platinum plugs. They're not cheap but that's what you have to use.

If the spark plugs have been in for a while then changing them makes a huge difference! I've just changed mine and it feels like a new engine!

We have some really good cambelt offers on at the moment, check my traders section.
Would change the plugs for you if want as well.

I believe they need to be done together yes but if the cam belt is fairly new you may be able to get away with fitting it again, but to be honest, for the cost of a belt I'd just get it all done again for peace of mind. Sounds like you've got a nice low mileage example... It's worth spending the money!

I paid £35.25 for 4 which was discounted trade price, they're on Eurocarparts website at £13 each. Compared to a £3 Bosch plug they're bloody expensive but apparently it'll run like s**t on anything other than the NGK's.

yeah its a real clean example 54 plate, 31k on clock only concerning thing is the amount of owners. trader said only 3 so i snapped her up. V5 came through to say i was the 7th lol! i wasnt happy. car runs fine although i get lights on dash very regular!

I see you have the 172cup, they're awesome my mate had one til we wrote it off. i think they're faster than 182 tbh. what you think?

have you done much mods to yours?

Depends when the Cambelt was done, They dont need to be done together but if it hasnt been done in a while (4 years) might as well kill 2 birds with one stone. Simply because you have to do the same amount of work to get to the Aux belt as you do the cambelt pretty much!

If you only need to do the Aux belt fit a full kit, The tensioners have been known to s**t theirselves in the past, Mine did shortly after a stuck just a belt on for a few months as my old one was cracking.

Used to have a Cup - That's in Cup Heaven now looking down on it's fatter brother wearing it's shoes!! Lol.

I've got a normal fatty Iceberg 172 now with most of the "standard CS mods" (Coilovers, Turini's, Stealth Exhaust, Silvervisions, Momo Team Steering Wheel erm, few more bits n bobs like panel filter and that) plus I have my new clean plates (smaller front plate) being delivered by a fat bloke in a red suit soon from the parents as a stocking filler! Been waiting for it for ages but they wanted to get it for me!

I wouldn't worry about the amount of owners, these sort of cars are the type which would get exchanged every 6 - 12 months as the sort of people who drive them get bored / want more power etc etc... as long as the mileage stacks up to the old MOT's / Servicing then I'd be over the moon!

When you say "lights on the dash"... That's a bit concerning and I'd get that looked at! Only time I've ever had a light on the dash is when I had an injector fail on me! (recently!).

SteveS - Plate sounds great pal! Yeah all the MOTs measure up! they come on randomly. I have looked on the forum some people say theres come on at a certain speed etc but mine come on as and when they please. Sometimes 3 times in one journey. it the tranction ABS and service light. when turning car on and off they clear, but do return.

haha cup in heaven! we hit a tree lol rest was history! sad moment!

More head on with a 330ci swerving to avoid some Cnut in a british gas van pulling out on me but yes... very sad moment, absolutely mint, low mileage cup gone :(

Sounds to me like you could have a lose sensor (ABS / TC) possibly.

  Iceberg 172
Could be that yes! More likely tbh, as they come on / off it just sounds like it's lose connections as if it was something wrong, it'd stay on!!

Renault ~ £120 if you want to have a shot yourself, Otherwise use one of the traders if your unfamiliar they all seem to be in here ;), bit of a c**t of a job, well its not just time consuming and awkward
