cambelt snapped 172 cup 03 plate - update

  Titanium ph1 turbo
I posted a few days ago to say my engine died on the motorway...

Anyway, just spoken with renault now and they've confirmed that the cambelt has indeed snapped (due to the auxillary belt tearing off also), and that they are going to remove the head to have a look at the damage...

They've said that it will either be repaired or it will be a new engine job... I asked what criteria they base the decision on and it's whatever costs the cheapest in terms of labour and parts...

I hope they drop a new engine in!! I'll keep you updated.

just had a call, they've said that the valves only are damaged and that they are going to replace the cylinder head only... so no new engine :(

I asked about the state of the pistons and apparently theres no marks at all on them. As long as it drives as good as it used to i'm not bothered really...

the guy said it was the first time he'd seen a belt snap on one of these engines, he said they had completed a technical report which is being sent to renault...

but if it does what the F7p engines do when the belt snaps your feckered, when the belt snaps on then the pistons hit the valves and that impact causes the big end bearings to compress, and instead of staying with the con rod it sticks to the crank!

happened top the 19 i bought.

well im sure we'll find out if more internal damage has taken place once they fit the new head and start the engine...

be assured i'll be taking it to 7250rpm once in a while to ensure the engine is tight within the remaining warranty period....

funnily enough i was thinking of changing cars anyway and getting a scenic or something bigger as i've got a baby now and a 3 door hot hatch isn't as practical.

nah, got my girlfriend having to climb in the back, and i have to take the parcel shelf off to fit the buggy in... dunno why, but i'm having this feeling that i'd be happier with a scenic.. i got to borrow one as a courtesy car a while back and i loved it...
