That sentence just hurt my eyes.

If I understand you right, on your trip computer it won't tell you how far you can go on the fuel you have left? (Range)

Does it give readings for the other fuel-based calculations? like Average MPG etc?

Try resetting it. Hold in the button on the right hand stalk whilst turning on the engine. Your dashboard should light up like a Christmas tree and the needles will go wild. Press the mileage re-set button and then have a look see if it's working! (Bare in mind you'll have to drive a little to get a reading first!)

Well.. The fuel trip - if I understand it correctly - relies on a feed from the fuel level sender unit. If I were you I'd trace the wires from that. They're likely to be small and weak because they're only carrying a piffling signal current, so if the people at the bodyshop tweaked them lightly, they may have severed the connection.

Did they have the carpets out etc?

Look for the fuel sender unit's wires (under the rear seat squabs I'd guess) and follow them looking for signs of strain on the sheathing. Find the connectors where they join into the loom, and see if they're connected properly. There are probably two wires: one for the computer and one for the gauge.

If that doesn't get you any closer to sorting it, use a multimeter to check that you're getting continuity though the wires, and then check to see if you're getting a voltage from it.

Another simple thing would be to go to the body shop and ask them which wires they disconnected: point out the problem - maybe they can shed light on it?

The more likely scenario is that they honestly don't know that they damaged something.

Maybe if you asked them to go though the steps of what they did, you'll both notice the point at which the damage occurred.

you said they sprayed the interior: Was it a full "carpets out" job? If so, tweaking the wire or not putting it back on properly is very likely.

Do what MR G said.
Holy carp! I didn't SEE Mr G's post. ... not only that, I had no idea that could be done!
How does this "reset" differ from simply pressing the reset pin in the dash itself?

Stacky: Listen to these guys: do that first.

It's what Renault use to program it from miles or kilometers I think.

I assume it does a hard reset of it. Sorted my issues out.

Easiest place to start!
