Catcams 422

Obviously some high CR pistons would be nice to make the most of them but will they work with the standard items without the valves touching?

If not, how much better are the 421 over the Pipers?

This with me saying about going for wilder cams than Pipers with you doing valves and cat cam springs and then bodies lol

422's or 423's iirc can be fitted with standard pistons, they just need uprated valve springs.

I've been looking at the Gen90 as the plug and play is appealing

I could get the engine place by me to do bigger valve cutouts in the standard pistons for the 422s if required

I can't find any dyno data for them to compare with other cams though.

I'm not sure they'd need much. I'll give catcams a call on Monday. They were very helpful and spot on with info when I did a ST170

Have a look for baroon or bazoon's racing blue ph1 thread, they had one of the them two set's of cams I mentioned fitted and made 230bhp iirc.

i'd of thought hi comp pistons are req'd to generate the larger cylinder pressures at high revs required for the cams to 'be in their element'. Cutouts on stantad pistons wouldnt provide that.

Yes they would be better, however its even more cost on pistons and a rebore. Honda VTEC engine run a similar compression ratio and they cope fine with high rpm lairy cams. Granted the dynamic CR will be reduced though.

Tbf the catcams 422 are still not that lairy, but are about as far as I'd like to do on a road car.

Also as the 422 can come with VVT, is there no way at all they could be made to work on the standard ECU. Or is a chat with Henk worthwhile on that front?

Going to search for Bazzon's thread...

maybe you should clarify cam profile as title says 422 but post says 421's

Which is it ?

Yes I will do tomorrow. I'm starting to think it'll be more hassle than its worth. I need to stop messing around and get it out on track. I'll give Paul and Catcams a call though to find out the details.
