changing the oil

ok never done it before but cant be hard i guess , so wheres the sump plug located ? and will the oil just come out nice and smooth in a straight line lol , dont want it all over the drive !

Cant help you with locating the sump plug but the best bit of advice I can give you is to get a williams/2.0 megane oil filter. Its exactly the same as the one for a valver, but has a nut on the back so you can use a spanner to put it on instead of your hand.

Sump plug is located ... wait for it ..... in the sump lol. No realy its at the bottom of the engine facing towards the back off the car on the sump. As for the oil you will need something to contain about 5 litres. It comes out very fast in a sort of "straight lin". Remember to get a new sump washer as well.

Put a bit of oil on the new oil filter rubber sealing so that its easier to get off on the next oil change.

In the middle between the wheels(ish). If you run the engine a bit to the get oil warm then it will come out much easier.

ok i just been to halfords and purchased a 6litre oil container , is it necesary to get a new sump washer ? and where do i get one from , halfords ?

The filter is a fiver, change or there is no point putting new oil in, its so easy even Dannyboy could do it blindfolded!

right, a washer is about 7p from Ren, and get a filter while your there !.......you should change the filter at every oil change !......its only about a fiver, why contaminate all your new oil ?

word of advice, go get some pond liner or plastic sheet from B&Q.......the oil comes out in a straight line but thats only when the nut is fully out, while ur unscrewin it, it will go all over ur hands and ur drive and possibly up ur arm too lol

Everybodys right... theres no point leaving the filter in! make sure you use some new oil around the rubber gasket on it and dont do it up to tight.

You should do it with the oil warm cos it flows better, but it will piss out so leave the oil cap on until you have removed the sump plug completely, then take it off which will let the oil flow unresticted (it makes a little difference to the speed that it flows out)

Be prepared for the oil to flow out the filter aswell when you remove it. if you dont have a proper tool whack a screwdriver into it to turn it, but the tools arent that much.

Dont do it when the engines red hot cos the oil will flow strait up your arm and be bloody hot - makes for hard work in the engine bay if its red hot aswell.

Yeah, if you buy an oil filter remover dont get the chain type cos theyre a b**ch to get round the filter. It took me and my mate 20minutes over a hot engine, half a coat hanger and a fishing rod to get it round!!!! But atleast by that time all the oil had drained out.

The neighbours werent to chuffed about the oil stains all over the street tho. I was p*ssing myself cos my mate got oil all over his face when taking the plug off! He looked like something that had just been dragged out of a swamp. :p

Took my valver to Halfords AA service center, they didnt have a clue how to take off the oil filter because the gap between the subframe was too small:confused:

i just go to my reanult garage, they do it for me amd i get an espace all day to mess around in!! you can move the seats into picnic mode!! its cool!! and the sunroof wow its so so big!!!:D

Id rather do it myself and sit in the garden instead of a spas wagon - they charge you a fortune for such a simple job.

A service is a joke really - spark plugs, oil, filters... and loads of stuff they havent even been near in exchange for a lot of $$$$ sod that

Its £13 at national for decent oil, a filter and labour!

Or you could park your car over a drain as you change it, if you do it yourself?
