Chris205's Clio cup winter overhaul 2011/12

Some who know of me will know I've had this clio cup for around 10 months now, in that time Its seen many sets of wheels, suspension and exhaust systems

After going through a spell of wanting another trophy, I decided to invest my time and money in the cup instead, its only had 2 owners before me, both for 4 years at a time and its been pretty well looked after.

My soul intention is to make a nice all round car that peforms well, it may not be the most practical of cars when it's in a state I'm happy with, but if it puts a smile on my face I dont care.

Here are my favourite looks of 2011, followed by the plans for the winter and also 2012

When I bought it:

Chris are they Comp's or Speedlines?

Whatever they are, I love them!

How do my old 182 wheels look on the DCI btw?

Hi Rhys. theyre speedlines (the 5 spokes) quite rare to get a hold of.

DCi looks awesome, have a search of my threads I put some pics up a while back.

So the parts I plan on getting rid of or have already got rid of are:

Cup spoiler
BTB exhaust
Gaz Coilovers
Standard Bullets
Standard cup washer blanks
Ph2 Airbox
Matched Inlets
Standard battery
Most of the interior

Things that I'm keeping for 2012:
Carbon bonnet
Wheels
De-cat

So not really keeping much then

I do promise I will get some better quality pics for the next lot of updates. I thought I'd compile a planned spec for 2012, will be nice to see how much of this I stick to and what plans change.

Exterior:
Carbon bonnet -Done
Carbon Washer blanks - Done
Carbon Fog surrounds
Carbon front and rear diamonds
Xenons from normal 172 - Done
Renault sport 200 badge in place of clio
Trophy rear spoiler with shorter boot struts
Dent removal (Small car park dings argh!
Full paint correction

Interior:

Strip the front end out
Modify the doorcards to make them a little lighter
Fit 2x Bimarco seats, 4 point harnesses on custom frames
Remove some sound proofing from behind the Dash
Brand new Sabelt renault sport wheel with momo boss
Consider Half Weld in cage with potentioal to weld in front section if things get SRS (probably SD Cage)
Relocate Battery behind passenger seat (Odyssey race battery)

Chassis:

Kw Or Billstein B14 fixed rate coilovers
Whiteline Rear ARB
AST Top Mounts
Refurbish O.Z Superleggeras in black
Pure motorsport top mounts and slut brace
Polybush wishbones and ARB

Brakes:

Grey area this one, would love a nice pair of red Brembo 4 pots but will probably run brembo discs and ferodo ds2500 pads in standard calipers for 2012
Goodridge braided lines
Brake Fluid Change
Possibly brake bias valve to try to calm the rear end down once fully stripped

Engine & Exhaust:
K-tec engine mounts and poweflex lower dogbone mount
K-tec De-cat
AAS Custom exhaust with 182 recess and straight cut exhaust (A little bit of racer in me)
V6 Airbox with pipercross race filter, located directly on side of the throttle body
Fit RS inlets again
THEN:

To be done by Fred @ Btm : Fit Cat cam 421's, remove air con and replace with propper cup set up, reseal rocker covers as currently has slight leak, fit new dephaser pulley and have the belts done again for piece of mind.

Once the above has been done by Fred I will drive the Car to Leeds and let Paul @ Rs Tuning work his magic, we're hopeful the set up will reach over 190bhp with a healthy torque increase.

I'm hoping to reach 200 bhp/ tonne once its finished

Thanks for looking and anything you want to discuss, post away :)

Just seen the DCI. Looks great to when I last saw it! You have certainly got a lot to do, your to do list sounds great Chris. I have quite abit to do to mine including fitting Trophy suspension which I bought as you recommended that to me! I will put a progress thread up at Xmas when I start my work. Will be following yours as I do quite like your spec list :)

Really glad you took the advice mate, I was planning on fitting trophy suspension to my Cup but cant be hassled with changing the shafts and hubs, as you said I've got quite a lot to get through, some of it isnt as important as others so may have to wait.

Did you get yourself a whiteline Rear Arb as well? Whiteline, + Trophy shocks + Sportline = FTW

If that's the setup your trophy had when i had a ride in it at south sheilds then you need to replicate that! Your car was sublime then and I've never been in a more solid feeling and looking Clio, much better than any coil over setup I've been in and that includes expensive ones.

It will have Trophy dampers, sport lines, ast top mounts, fully poly bushed front end and in the early new year a white line ARB. I thought I will get an ARB after I have used the suspension so I appreciate it ;)

  Clio 172 cup
Very nice motor indeed.

But....

Tbf all the money you have spent on clios, u could prob have an evo 9 sat on your drive

Raiderman- I know mate, had the trophy not blown up twice I'd still have it and would be £8000 better off in the process

  Lionel Richie
Looking good

Think over 190bhp from 421's and a remap is bloody optimistic though. Mine wont make over 190bhp and I've got bodies lol

i've done 4 that had done over 190 with measly 428's!!

mine is 190 with nothing too, it WILL do 200bhp that's my misson!

Personally I would rather have the Mark fish springs over the Eibachs and revalved Koni’s for rears, now that’s a decent setup!

Chris I seriously can’t keep up with you lad! One minute it’s looking fresh lowered on the cup turini’s next thing it’s got a Carbon bonnet and stripped!

Give you some credit your keen!

But how long till you change your mind again and we are back to the start lol, I know how bored you get

Leeroy I've decided to just appreciate it for what it is and exlpoit the chassis as much as possible by making it lighter, more power and better handling so hopefully it will blow the trophy out of my mind, its a big task but I'm sure the KW's will do the trick

You be best steering clear of me pal lol

182 trophy is one of the car’s am likely looking into very soon within the next month, as am now trophyless without the megane.

I should really get a type r or 330 ci couple, but I have had a burning urge for a trophy now for 6 years lol

The wheels are speedline 2110 challenge wheels, only made by speedline when some blokes in Spain requests the for his rally/race cars.
I may be buying them back at some point as they look awesome but they do weigh a lot

You really sold the megane? That makes me sad :(

Tbh mate I wouldn't get a clio trophy at the minute, Id be buying yourself a nice clio 200, having first hand experience of the handling they really are a blinding car

I'd be looking at something newer mate, CTR EP3 would be nice and tunable too. I'm looking to get a fabia vrs in the summer and keep the cup for fun.

Will be watching this with interest.Have to jump on board with the others and say the black speedlines do look great in the old photos.Plans for the coming year sound good as well,be interesting to see what power it makes with the 421s since it did so well at RS Tuning the other month.

Cheers Ross.
