Chris's Monaco Project

Bought this quite cheap a few weeks back with all the intentions of breaking it if/when it broke itself, I didnt have to wait long until it destroyed itself, first the powersteering letting go followed by some hideous noise with the stop and battery light coming on.

I didnt plan on keeping it, however as I have very little money in it I've decided I quite like the colour and its quite rare to see one done to a good standard so it seems right to sort it out

Here is the car anyhow.

Current spec is:

Matched Inlets
De-cat
Powerflow cat back exhaust
Panel Filter
Remapped
Apex Springs

I plan on taking my time with it, get it cleaned up, machine polished and fixed ofcourse.

Here are some of the plans for the coming months:

Trailor it down to Fred@BTM to get him to fix it, whilst he's on I want some of the GT cams putting in it, possibly removing the aircon aswell. I think changing the water pump and dephaser would also be a good choice.

Once I've got it back I'm fitting a 182 manifold then sending it off to AAS to get a link pipe and the rest of the exhaust fitted from my silver cup, when this is done I'll be taking it down to RS tuning to get it mapped. I'm hoping for a strong result as to before pre-alternator distruction it pulled really well.

Looks good Chris, and sounds like some really interesting plans, especially with the Cams, i'll be keeping an eye on it.
Thanks again for the Recaros! got them fitted as soon as I got home on Friday.

Thanks for all the comments, I priced up buying another clio with similar mileage to the monaco, however they would be standard etc.

I think I can get this car done as I want it for around £3500 all in :)

What are peoples thoughts on wheel choice?

Silver turinis or Anthracite 2118's?

he sold them scott. i think it looks good with the wheels that are on now tbh. but it would look nice on 2118s.. then after a few month chris will sell them and i may buy them off him as i really want some for mine :p

I did sell them scott, however I didnt lose too much on them so I'm not too fussed

no good :( i'd say refurb the 172 alloys and keep it OEM and clean :D

as knuckles said keep the standard wheels... just get the engine sweet asd a nut like im gonna be doing with mine.. and maybe the extra cash off not modding the monaco could go towards a w.end toy

Couple of updates for the monaco.

Whiteline Rear ARB bought from fred (Cheers mate)
Bilstein Coilovers left with fred@btm to get refurbed :)
Standard wheels sold awaiting something new :)

Just waiting on a decent quotation to get the monaco shipped from County Durham down to Fred's place in birmingham, if anyone knows of anyone who is reliable and trustworthy then send them my way.

Heres a quick pic of the swirly paint I'll soon be attacking with the machine polisher

Thanks for all the comments.

Small update for the monaco, I decided the brakes needed a freshen up, I've had the paint for them since I had my trophy, just never got round to doing it, so instead of leaving it until the last minute I thought I'd make it my first job to do.
