Christmas list for more bhp

  Porsche Boxster987S
Im looking to buy a few things to give the car a bit more power. NOT keen on an aftermarket exhaust so for under the bonnet what should i be looking for??

- ITG panel filter ( any bhp gains ? )
- RS tuner/remap
- Induction kit ( Maxogen / simota / BMC )

Im not mechanically minded at all and would have a clue how to fit anything to a car so any advice on things i should get to give the car some more bhp. Oh , and can you get a decat for the standard 182 system and would it be noisy???

cheers:)

Anything is possible but you would need to introduce more silencers which will cap the power due to restriction of output.

I've got a yozza decat on my std system i think, sounds slightly meatier but nowhere near loud. You wouldn't notice the difference if you didnt know about it though.

matched inlets??

if i got the itg filter would i need to get a IK aswell?? i mean would i benefit from an aftermarket IK with a panel filter?

Might be worth a search for the matched inlets theres plenty of threads on them. An induction kit makes next to no difference on these cars although you might gain abit of noise (depends who you ask though).

hi paul it depends how far you want to take it, as this stuff can get seriously addictive!

Personally:
1. Ktec panel filter
2. Rematched inlets
4. Decat
5. Remap

Good luck with capping it at just that though!

cheers for the help so far guys. so bar the noise an induction kit gives theyre not really worth the money?? would a panel filter do anything for performance??

theoretically yes, but it wouldnt be noticeable imo.

Get RS Tuner and your inlets matched and it will make a huge difference

how much are we talking for these mods mate and what do you mean inlets matched? sorry for being dumb:eek:

If the loudest thing you would like to hear in your car at 60mph is the belt whistle then the only mods you could really go for are matched inlets, Teflon inlet gasket, high lift cams, a remp and a stove enamelled exhaust manifold. Note allowing more air into the engine without allowing more out will restirct any of these performance parts from reaching their maximum efficiency.

RS Tuner is about £140

Matched inlets is a reworked inlet manifold that basically matches it to the ports on the engine correctly. These can be hand on an exchange basis for a couple hundred pounds.

Also as someone else has mentioned, the PTFE gaskets seem like a good cheap mod.

RS Tuner is €189 which is more like £170 at current exchange rates :dapprove:

I'm getting Matched Inlets, PFTE Gaskets and a RSTuner in Jan and getting it fitted while I get the Cambelt Done, I've already got an ITG Filter in a Ph1 Airbox and Decat and Cat Back System though.

GDI, Scrorpion and Yozza Decats all Fit STD Systems and will Free it up a bit without making it too noisey.

i've got matched inlets, ptfe gaskets remap decat and a full s/s exhaust and an itg pannel filter
and i would say the best mods were the matched inlets and the remap
huge difference in pick up and torque imo

Any reason why you suggest an IK over ITG panel filter? Everything I've read, so I'm not pretending to have any knowledge lol, suggests the ITG panel filter gives better results.

Also if my purchase goes through in the new year will I be able to call over to yours and pick up one of your PTFE gasket sets? Quicker and easier for me, even if it does mean venturing in to the depths of Derby lol, to pop over then get it posted and probably cost the same anyway.

a 182 manifold on a 182...

Paul...Wouldn't bother mate. Panel filter when it needs a service. For a bit of noise, go K-tec/Janspeed or Miltek.

TBH the 172/182 is nippy enough!

For the money i'd be buyin KW coils, or Recaro's! Job done.

Best mod I have "done" is defiantly the remap, gives you that low down torque which should of been there from the factory!

But apart from that... Brakes and suspension, round track those are THEEEE mods that have made the car more quicker and most importantly fun!

thats my next big mod after the coilys:) youre right though they are quite nippy but i just want that wee bit more from it. matched inlets and rs tuner remap are definites.

Panel Filter and Decat... Then Coily's and Brakes.... Then Cat-Back System, Matched Inlets and a Remap

That would/has been the way I've done/doing it

if your after value for money forget the IK altogether.

Matched inlets,
Decat,
RS tuner Custom Map.

That's all the effective mods you can do without spending considerable cash.

Either way - IK or an ITG Panel filter... depends how much noise you want... both kits will provide similar peformance... the IK only will with a CAF though otherwise it will just get too much hot air. For the OEM look go for the panel filter.

I am in Nottingham so easy pick up for you mate.

182 manifold was a gag following the previous post about the same thing :approve:

Ah right, ta for the info.

My bad I assumed you were Hill Power out Derby way and just lived in Nottingham. I'll get in touch with you once I've got the car I'm after and sort out with you then. :)

sure ive read on here that the inlets on 182's where pretty well matched anyway

Depends some are good some arn't. If you have the lower manifold with RS stamped on them, then they are normally pretty good but theres still room for improvement by using matched ones.

i have to agree there. to be honest you cant squeeze much more bhp out of it without spending big bucks. and even with itb's you will still want more power!
rs tuner is a resonable price and is supposed to improve the driveability.

if i was starting again on my 182ff i would...
-dump the crap exhaust for a milltek (pretty quiet)
-kw coilovers
-colourcoded bullets and diamond
-silvervisions
-pannel filter
-wire in a 2nd bootlight

thinks thats about it.
