always with the engine running and just a sprinkling of water and be careful of moving parts and avoid water on the electrics ... quite tricky really
Always work on a cold engine IMO. Two reason -
A hot engine will dry the detergant/cleaner very quickly before it can do its job.
More importantly, spraying water onto a hot engine can create condensation inside electrical components which may affect running and worst case cause electrical arcing.
