Clio’s been crahed into...

This was a very strange accident. I has on a road with three lanes that lead to the M62 or towards Normanton, all lights are on green and this metallic red Citroen Saxo VTR starts swerving between lanes. I just thought It was some thick tw*t that didnt know which lane he should have been in so I hung back a little. He then stayed in the same lane as me for a few seconds so I thought that he must be staying in that lane but all of a suddon he decides to slam the anchers on for no reason at all. I do the same so that I dont hit the idiots car and miss it easily by over a rulers length. Next thing I know theres a bang and the car jerks forward abit and I just thought he we go again...

The saxo stays for a split second and realises what hes done (two young lads in the front and two young girls in the back) and sped off leaving me and the driver behind to sort out all the mess. Didnt get the tits plate which was annoying cos I would have liked to see him go down for dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident!

I couldnt be mad with the guy behind me in the green nissan almera because it wasnt his fault really even though he should have kept his distance because it seemed almost stag managed.

Looks like im claiming off the drivers car behind me. The coppers turned up a few mins later and I told them about the Saxo but he wasnt interested and told us to move somewhere better to exchange details. Luckily I got his details and he acknowledged that the saxo driver was to blame so he was ok with it. He wanted to just get his car repaired and not go through insurance because it appeared to look as though the only damage was a little dint in the boot lid. Experience tought me to look a bit closer so I went to see if the boot lid would open and it did but I noticed that the boot carpet was raised and the boot was crumpled in by about an inch so I knew straight away that it was an isurance job. My tyres are scraping on the bumper on corners so thats deff fecked. Just waiting for a date now to see when they can repair it.

im sure if your chassis bent then it automatically makes your car a write off? my cars writtan off now, was gonna spray my kit and have everything on by the end of next week as well, oh well :( at leaset it all wasnt on when i crashed

Its only a write off if its not ecconomical to repair. IE the cost of repair exceeds the estimated value of the vehicle.

Or in extreme circumstanstances an actual total loss when the vehicle ceases to be what it was originally intended to be.

You should complain to the police that they should be looking for the saxo as its THEIR JOB!

not sure if the chassis is bent. The bodyshop bloke at reno said that they need to knock out the dint in the boot, skim it and respray, replace the bumper and respray it cos some the plastic bits behind it have caved in and remove and replace a metal piece behind the bumper. The also need to striaghten out the boot floor and respray it cos they said cutting out the boot floor would be too much work. The boot lid does not meet properly now. I wish it was written off because I have 3 year gap insurance and would have got all my money back and crashed cars are never the same so I would probably not want to keep it long after its been fixed.

surely you can request them to straighten it all out so it is all straight? it wasnt your fault, and when you gt it back after it being fixed it should be as it was before??

a car is a right off if the cost of repair is over a third of the value of the car. if the chassis is bent and it needs reshelling then it will cost more than a third of the value of the car??

my question about the bent chassis (frame) is that i know on a bike if the frame is bent in anyway atall its classed as a wright off

I smashed my dads escort right up when I 1st passed (woops)

Had to have a whole new subframe, drive shafts, whishbone, wheels etc etc etc etc.

Car was 3 years old estimated value at the time was aprox £8k cost of repair was over £4k

Took em 8 weeks to repair it and appart from the alarm being screwed up by their sparky they did a top job and you wouldnt even know itd been in an accident.

Yes there are going to straighten it all out. Only thing that will slow the process down is if direct line want to send one of their guys down to look at it but Its a credible bodyshop and I know that they will use official renault parts and do a good job (i hope). The only problem is that my insurance will probably go up a bit even though it wasnt my fault. Got it booked in at the mechanical bit for the 12th as well to fix the gearbox so it looks like i could be in hire cars for a while!
