Clio 172 insurance is ridiculous

  MK1 Mexico, Clio 172
Is it just me or does everyone pay through the nose for insurance.

I'm traveling for a year so the car is SORN sitting on my mums driveway.

I just called Sky insurance who offered me a quote through Chaucer. Who else is worth trying?

36 years old
Full NCB
Fire and Theft cover only required

It's got no engine mods but uprated suspension, roll cage, seats etc

£450!!!!!

I had a Porsche 993 C2 that was insured for 30k, and that was only £250 Fully Comp.

Bonkers

1*2 is within most younger drivers budgets.

Younger drivers crash more.

Ergo 1*2 are high risk so insurance costs increase.

I'd love to pay £450 lol! :rasp:

My 197 was the cheapest of all of the RS clios to insure... Hence why I bought it :approve: just got a quote again for when I move house/renew insurance and it came back at £975, I was expecting double that lol

Just to make you feel happy. My 172 is £270. My wife's Astra 1.6 Club is over £300! Both full no claims. With Aviva.

Why does having a roll-cage put it up so much?

Because you're presumed to drive like a hero as you have some scaffold to protect you?

You're back !!

(or are you ?! .. perhaps not...)

I'd say that was a fair price, as mentioned, the rollcage won't help you... I think your main problem is you're getting zero use out of the car so it seems unjustified...

Have you tried fully comp cover as a comparison ? Sometimes is cheaper than TP...

When I was with flux they didn't charge extra for a cage, but a couple of comapnies have said they won't insure me with one.

Statistics, as ever. Also, when the 'caged car is crashed, the cage spreads the energy of the collision around the chassis resulting in more damage, therefore increased repair costs to the insurer, not to mention PI claims from body parts connecting with the cage.

Hello mate, back in January.

Just got to Penang in Malaysia after a month in Sumatra, heading to the Perhentian Islands tomorrow for a couple of weeks of bumming on a beach and scuba diving

You're right about why i'm peeved. I only want it covered against getting nicked from the driveway, i'm not even going to drive it so i can't crash the bloody thing.

I'll speak to a couple of other places but probably going to be the same

Got any mates in the trade? Probably cheaper to find a corner in a garage somewhere and give em £100 to keep an eye on it!

Didn't cost me a penny more when my cage went in, so not really fact :)

Hi Guys

We have recenltly come back onto Cliosport as a Trader. We have specilaist modified vehicle policies that can allow for roll cages.

Personally I feel its actually making the car safer for you and any passangers. We had a customer with a Highly modified car with a cage in that got side swipped on the motorway causing him to flip the car. The police said if it wasnt for the cage him and his passanger would of been in a real bad way.

If anyone is struggling to get a roll caged car insured or would like a quote for your renewal please drop me a PM with your contact number/desired time and i'll come back to you to run a quote. Alternatively you could call the main office number on 01277 376 000

We can offer large concessions for limiting the mileage under 7500. We can also offer option track cover, agreed value policies and like for like replacement on modified parts.

Cliosport members will also receive a 13% discount off of our rates.

Best Regards
Neil

Hi Neil, I take it 172 cups are still on your excluded list.

Hi Neil, I take it 172 cups are still on your excluded list.

We are in the process of addressing this. The 172 cups were a problem for us back in 2007 but we should be able to quote these under the new schemes we have gained since then.

I will confirm for sure on Thursday this week. If you have owned it a year claim free Im 99% sure it will be fine.

It is a joke hence 1 of the reasons it being for sale.

Postcode lottery FML

Thats the main thing. Postcode is everything. I can see a big shake up on the horizon, its unfair to group people's risk based on where they live. I have no issue with area ratings for theft, thats fair but just cos a few of my neighbours have accidents then why should that effect me.

I'm actually suprised they still get away with it as its been over a decade since they stopped underwriting credit based on area.

It's not just accidents though, it's theft/damage bla bla bla, there's more to it than just accidents!
