My old mk4 gsi was running 203bhp (standard apart from exhaust) and did 1/4 mile in 14.51 that's faster than my 172 (with decat) which did it in 15.01.

But there isn't much in it tbh! Astra feels quicker though bacause it has alot more torque!

Standing start, probably the 172 upto 60mph. rolling start the GSI will probably just keep pulling away ever so slightly upto silly speeds. Saying that mine isn't standard (it's been remapped)

GSi will eat you, i used to own a Z20LET (turbo) astra. Even standard they are quick. remapped and they are fairly brutal on acceleration. Clio will win in the twisties though.

i raced one and pulled on it slightly in a straight line, my clios far from standard though, a standard clio will be slightly slower. remaped astra, bye bye! they are fast when mapped, dont handle very well though lol (ive driven one!)

I honestly dont think theres another car out there that can show a clio how to do it better in the twisties , seriously though, you can stick that R500 right up your arse

I have had both Astra GSI turbo, 172 and 182, had the gsi and 172 at the same time for a week till it went to the new owner and me and my g/f had a little go to see what the dif was. Both was the same till 100, we didnt go any faster. No dif in it what so ever, but i reackon after 100 the GSI would start to get the upper hand.

I had a mk4 gsi before buying my ph1 172, my Gsi was running 218bhp and many of times I raced my friend with a 172 and there was nothing in it. If he went up the road first he'd stay there and vice versa.

Both standard up to a 100mph it will be pretty even. Gsi only faster when mapped. Mate has one and they handle like crap!

Noone without a heavily modified (as in, internals, forced induction etc) clio is going to be destroying an astra gsi in a straight line. At the most, your talking a car length either way and over 100 you can wave goodbye to it.

Thats hardly destroyed, more "a slight edge". Can't believe the amount of people that beat some c**t in car x by 0.000000001 of a second and then come on here "YEHH MERRT I FUCKIN DESTROYEDDD HIM INNIT", they all need to be wanked off by lusty tbh.

right ok so i didnt get up to warp 9 past him fly round the planet themn lap him, but there was a large enough gap to say that he was never going to make a come back and get anywhere near me. i'd expect a turbo'd car around the 210/220bhp mark to annihilate a N/A car thats completely standard (as my car was at the time) but he didnt, he even got out of the car after our run and said "i didnt realise how f**king quick your car was, you had me"

so "you spanner" keep your f**king comments to yourself unless you can prove that i had anywhere in the region of a sub 1 second gap over him. it was more than a car length and my car was pulling far quicker than his was... we wont go into what speeds we were doing because you are bound to be an angel

My mate has a 03 plate GSI and my best friend has a 172 and we regularly go out together so i've been in the middle of a fair few "plays" between them, i'd say i'm in a pretty good position to comment on it tbh but nevermind, i'll leave you to destroy anything on wheels with your rocket ship.

mate, i dont have a rocket ship, in fact i quite readily accept when a car is faster than mine, im talking about an experience I <thats ME, had with an astra gsi. mk4's arent that quick, theyre very heavy, it might be the fact that he had a 6 speed gear box put in that slowed his astra down if anything due to f**king up the ratios (he doesnt have a vxr turbo to match the gearbox). i'll quite happily race another and i'll accept if its quicker than mine, but in my experience they arent as fast as people make them out to be.

astra gsi's are shocking cars they will understeer untill they pop drive shafts out in a straight line theres proberly not huge amounts in it but what a silly match up 2ltr turbo v a 2ltr n/a lump. Most other 2 ltr turbos would eat both the astra and clio's

My cup vs a friends standerd mk4 gsi astra, i win on take off,straight line race and in the bends. But i would have the gsi over the cup anyday. They have a nice interior, tuning is cheap and they look awesome imo.

Lol @ all the swearing/nastyness, jesus people calm down, simple, as with most cars there are too many variables to say a clear winner, logic dictates that the Clio with its lighter weight would be nippier off the line and the Astra with superior power would take it at the top end, but as said there are too many variables to concede to a 'winner'
