clio 182 gearbox problem

i need help

i took my car to the garage for a check over and they said there is a bit of oil coming from the gearbox, after going back many times to have it looked at they naw think the hole gearbox needs to come off and be split becouse they think it is leaking from the join at the bottom?? it is an 04 plate that has done 62000 miles and has full service history, i think it sounds very odd? is there common places for them to leak? please help!

I'm assuming this a sport. If so stupid design has the linkage coming out the bottom. The linkage rod seal wears and the oil drips out. If your lucky like mine it is still just a drip after 76,000 miles and over 10 years and you only have to put about 100ml of gearbox oil in to get it back to the correct level after all that time. So I'm leaving it alone and topping up and cleaning the under tray each service. Others are worse probably due to more town driving.

If it is the linkage there is a fix that you can get from mapco on EBay that seems to work according to a few on here. Some still have issues after fitting. You replace the seal with a couple of O-rings which are held in by a bracket you attach to the gearbox. It goes stiff for a couple of weeks and then frees up. A search should bring a related thread up.

Take the under tray off and trace the linkage to the gearbox and the linkage rod and it's rubber bellows will be soaked in oil if that's the problem. If the gearbox is wet higher up then the problem most likely lies elsewhere. Although check it's not coming from the filler hole from topping up. Plastic wingnut at the front.

To completely fix it it is a gearbox out job.
