So, 'popped' up to see chris@efi with @DV8 mainly for mapping on his EK9 turbo, had mine on the dyno to see if all is well with it after my new exhaust and it was perfect.. still great power and nothing needed!

The guys at Phoenix custom exhausts are awesome, I messaged them about the car being a bit too boomy inside when at low revs pottering about so asked them if they could make me up a silenced decat - this came in the post, all custom made. They didn't charge and it fits a treat... and most important it's just taken the edge off the deep note from the exhaust!

Highly recommended guys! [emoji106][emoji106]

I may have missed this in previous posts but have you had any problems with taking away the pre cat gasket and fixings? I assumed the springs and that had to be there to give a bit due to engine movement etc. Seems much better to do what you've had done than constantly have to mess around with gasket and fixings as I'm having to do now.

I may look into a silenced decat like yours for mine, wonder how much they usually are....

That's awesome, how much was the system in the first place? I want a 3" system.

Hi mate, the system itself is very light and the rear mounts allow for plenty of movement, I have a brace on the downpipe to the back of the block so it takes away any kind of strain on the turbo and downpipe... plus the usual polybushed dog one so there isn't anything to worry about [emoji106][emoji106]

£750 [emoji51][emoji51][emoji51] that was with the custom link pipe to the turbo downpipe and the decat part... the rear mounts are included and the tips are interchangeable and adjustable [emoji1305][emoji1305]

Little update,

Had a manic couple of months prior to this years Nürburgring trip, basically I was building my mates Mk2 Golf 20vt... decided it was going with us and had to be done in time. Managed to crack on and with a quick track day at castle Combe to test my work and we were happy to take it to Germany with mine and the Civic EK9 turbo.

After this I started prepping my own car!!

First up was to address the spring rate slightly upfront to stop the springs going spring bound on the carousel, so after a few chats with Nick at Pure motorsport I decided on some 450ftlb eibach springs to suit my billies. After fitting I found a really annoying creaking/squeaking sound.... after a lot of messing about I found the front dampers had an issue!! So off to David Masters at Bilstein UK...

Spoke to David about the new spring rates I had and we discussed having my dampers dyno’d for better mid range damping to further improve the issues with going spring bound, so while they were being rebuilt he did that.

Other prep included new 300mm discs, DS1.11 pads upfront, New genuine discs on the back with DS2500 pads, New AD08R tyres and I did a full geometry setup and off we go to the Euro tunnel!

Also bought some brake down cover whilst on the Euro tunnel, just for peace of mind!

After which felt like a longer than usual trip to Adenau to our friend Willy’s Guesthouse we arrived and had a well earned Erdinger!

This year we went for a Thursday to Tuesday trip make the most of the evening sessions as well as the sure to be busy weekend, which worked out to be a great idea, Saturday was carnage - lots of accidents caused by quite a few damp patches and lack of talent!

Saturday night at the New Horizons festival was insane, Armin Van Buuren was incredible! We didn’t plan or even know it was the New horizons festival prior to booking this years trip so that was a result, Defo had to get tickets. Seriously well planned event and not far from our B&B, also on the Grand Prix circuit [emoji97][emoji97]

The Sunday became a horrible day for my mate Tim in his 340bhp turbo EK9, sadly his bottom end decided to kill itself halfway around a lap, he noticed the oil pressure gauge flashing at him and luckily he made it out of the second exit and to a car park where he phoned me to see what I thought, basically my response after having a listen was, it’s f**king fucked mate!

That turned out to be a nightmare as the AA decided they would transport his car home after finding pics of it on the track, regardless of the fact it didn’t technically die on the track [emoji23] ANYWAAAAY, he had to pay for it to be brought home!

I had a small issue as well, my down pipe cracked right by the turbo flange, it’s done well, 3 trips to the ring on the turbo setup, so for that to be the only problem is nothing.... I carried on and put as many laps in as I could before it became a risk of coming off!! Luckily it was braced so couldn’t actually move away from the turbo!

The trip back to the euro tunnel on the Tuesday was LOUD, windows open so I didn’t get carbon monoxide poisoning, tunes up flat out and Tim sat next to me highly perturbed about his Honda with all his kit weighing the 182 down!!

But 10 more laps done and I still love the Clio, it’s all repaired now with a much thicker gauge down pipe, original one was made from paper thin Stainless.

Can’t wait for next year, we are looking into a 2 day destination Nürburgring track day trip, hence these...

Also will have wossner pistons, not really for much more power (although I will a bit) but for the niggle in my mind that this is a turbo charged standard engine!!

Always really enjoy reading this thread. It's just a case of, there's an issue, sort it, no faffing and no bother about small issues. Looks like a brilliant trip, would like to do something similar myself. :)

Cheers mate, must be a bit of a nightmare for guys who have to pay a mechanic to sort for them and trust their work!

Do it mate, you’ll love it!!

Haha good to see an update, as mentioned love the attitude of just getting on with it, no dramas. It's a great Clio

Nice to see I’m not the only one to wear earplugs in a clio on the motorway!

To be fair Incy's Clio is normally pretty quiet :)

Just before that pic @DV8 was complaining about the assault on his senses, windows open, wind blowing, stereo blaring, exhaust blowing then zzzzzzzzzzzz!!! [emoji42]

It was mostly the Armin Van Buuren related ripped up ear drums causing the issue - totally worth it though. The ZZZZZs were definitely carbon monoxide poisoning. 😂

Not been on here for a while... car has gone to my mates body shop to give the stone chipped front end some love! These Clios seem to attract stone chips!

Ring/Spa trip all booked for August, staying at Pistenklause for the first time this year, I will miss our usual place up over the top of Adenauer but keen on not having to worry about who’s driving if we go for a few pints...

Got some prep to do on the Clio, nut and bolt checks as per but I’ve just ordered an AP racing master cylinder to go with the PMS hydraulic clutch conversion.. trying a setup with the DCI 100 Clio pedal box so hopefully I can get that all working nicely!

Will update...

I’ve got a Sachs performance clutch mate and I’m not a fan of the high bite point on 182 clios and it’s heavy as hell.. also just like tinkering!

Cracking idea tbh mate! Mine is so light with the hydraulic kangoo set up. Makes driving very easy but at the same time it's incredibly grabby. I did away with that dampener though which doesn't help.

Yeah, I’ll see how the setup feels without a damper. What clutch do you have?

Little update on the hydraulic clutch... I’ve got it all mounted to the standard pedal box and have a braided line ready to go... ordered the bracket and slave cylinder so will give it a trial run soon.

Finished my hydraulic clutch just before our ring/spa trip... what a massive difference it made!

Gear changes up through the box on hard acceleration has been a slight issue when on track for a while, a bit like the cable wouldn’t dis-engage the clutch quick enough and dragged slightly... especially 3rd to 4th. This issue has now been totally sorted and can throw it into gear and down shift soooo much better!

Possibly a new clutch cable may have solved this but I wanted a lighter shorter clutch throw. That’s exactly what I now have!

As for the Nürburgring and Spa this year, absolutely loved it! Spa was amazing and we’ll be back for more of that next year.. track temps were ridiculously hot this year 50 + basically the whole time so tyres had a hard time. Glad I went for the Toyo R888R this year, awesome tyres!!

We had 4x 25min sessions at spa then a couple evening sessions and weekend at the ring. 6day trip this time.

Stayed at pisten klause as well so plenty steak! [emoji106][emoji106]

So proud of the little Clio, still going strong!

Only go pro footage I got with Harry’s lap timer. Mega busy, slow lap but still fun, following @DV8 in his meg 265

Camera angle wasn’t right either [emoji23][emoji23]

If anyone fancy’s giving mine and a group of mates instagram account @edgerattlers a follow that would be appreciated, just track stuff and tinkering with projects etc. Currently I’m converting an E36 to run a E46 M3 S54 engine, going to be a good one!

Cheers

Just gave you a follow on insta. Came back here to refresh myself on this awesome project and found out there isn't much else to do to this now, it's pretty darn perfect.

Cheers mate, yeah annoyingly you are right. I’m running out of mods.. thought about wheels and still want to experiment with an engine I have at work, I don’t want forged pistons though.. thanks for the follow
