Clio Ph1 Sub Wiring

  1.6 Ford Focus
Hey everyone, does anyone know the best place to run the cables for a sub woofer in a Mk2 Ph1 clio? I was going to run them under the plastic trim below the doors but I can't work out how they come out and looking at the passenger side, it wont come off without removing the boot release.

How have others hidden the wires?

What about the back and im not sure an 8 gauge power cable would squeeze under the trim, the other cables should though.

8awg will fit under the plastic trim below the door easily!

just start at the front, and pull the bottom up just enough to fit the cable underneith!

i did this with 4awg and it worked fine,
only problem you may have is getting under the seatbelt mount, but i managed to thread mine through and out the other side!

OR as said you could pull the door seal off, and the bonnet release and pull the trim out at the top,
and put the wire in there in the clip with all the other wires, and wire will DEFINATLEY fit in there! i did it with 0awg wire and it fit fine!!

Im about to give this a go, with any luck it will work. I am just going to run the cables under the rear seats to make that part easier though.

Does anyone know how the standard tweeters and door speakers are wired up by the way? I am fitting crossovers today but I have no idea how the standard speakers are wired... I was hoping they were simply done in parallel ie. 2 cables from HU to tweeter and 2 cables from tweeter to door speaker, but this doesn't seam to be the case looking at my workshop manual.

tbh, the wire renault included with the car is pathetic.
if you want to do a proper job, run new wires for the speakers and tweeters to the crossovers!

This worked well, thanks.

I ran the cables under the rear seat and there already seamed to be a little notch in the plastic trim by the rear seat for cables to go through without squashing them. So I ran it through there and under the trim like you said, the trim seams to pop off if you get your fingers under it. It's just the seatbelt mount I had trouble with but I will redo that bit again tomorrow.

I just need to get the power cable into the engine bay now and the RCA and remote cable to the head unit which I am assuming will just go under and around the back of the dash?

exactly mate, straight in the footwell walls (pull clip on and off like jacket pockets, straight up) and the grommet I used was just above the brake pedal on the driver side :) Glad for the progress mate!

Well I just spent 2 hours messing around and I have got absolutely nowhere!

I still need to get the power cable into the engine bay on the left side of the car (passenger side) but I am having no luck at all. Everywhere online says to go through the bonnet release cable hole but this does not work, the cable goes in about half an inch and gets stuck... even if it did go through it would still be useless because the plug where the bonnet release cable goes through it totally sealed and theres no way I can possibly see of getting it off.

I tried another hole and I had the same problem... a few cm in and it gets stuck.

Where else can I go?! I don't mind if I have to pull the cables back out and run them down the other side if there's a way through there instead but I can't see anything down there either... Last resort is to drill a hole which I would rather not do.

There's so little holes in a Clio I think you could seal up the doors and float it across the channel back to france without it sinking.

Why don't you pu them on the drivers side and prop cables up along the top of the firewall then drop down the engine bay (easier to go from inside the car above the clutch into engine bay rather out of engine bay into car)

  1.6 Ford Focus
Not sure I follow there... Up to the top of the firewall? that goes right up to the top of the dash though right? I am going from inside the car to outside the engine bay.

  MK2 Clio
I'll take a pic tomorrow for you weather permitting, I mean go through the gromet above the clutch pedal then pull the wire into the engine bay then send the wire around the engine bay and use clips at the top of the firewall (underneath the trim)

Pair of pliers pull the bonnet release cable grommiy back Fred power cable through

Remove colant bottle so you can get to the bulk head.
Little hint if you tie a bit of nylon string to the end of the power cable and feed that through first you can use that to pull the power cable through.

And too run all the cables to the boot you want to open the passenger door remove the rubber seal around the door frame, and the plastic mouldings that by your feet just pull them unroll they unclip, also pull the handle that opens the bonnet off it simply pulls off and clips back on

So am I better off going through the hole above the clutch then? I am guessing its not the same hole used for the clutch cable, that would cause problems right?

The bonnet release cable grommet looks huge and has a pipe on 1 end and what looks like duct tape on the other side that has melted. I am 90% sure im looking in the right place, it would be at the top right (battery side) of the car running down near the windscreen wash bottle?

Is the bonnet release cable actually behind the lever in the car? I found a single cable just further up behind the dash that goes through a metal hole with no grommet which I assumed is the release cable.

The cable is quite ridged so it shouldn't just coil up half way through.

or get a big drill out!

and drill a hole!
thats what i did in my old clio,
put some mastic arond the cable to make a grommit!

You have to take the black bung out first :)

  1.6 Ford Focus
Ah right, that looks a lot easier. I am assuming I just remove that black plug (circled below), or is it that other cable just above it? Is it a clear route through to the engine bay and comes out near the brake fluid container like your other picture shows?

Looks pretty simple if that's the case.

EDIT:
Actually ignore above, it has to be that red cable above where I circled in the picture above. It's a clear route through to the engine bay or is a bit fiddly to get it through?

Flol.

Yeah, definitely don't use the hole he's already put the massive red cable through. That would be far too easy.

  MK2 Clio
its pretty easy its much easier to go from inside to engine bay, but it is very easy, although hanging it around your engine bay firewall is slightly harder, I used photo frame clips :)

Im going to give it a try in a bit, it's slightly different in my car though. I see what I think is the same hole but there is no plug over it, just a bare hole in the metal.

I will get pictures if it doesn't work.

Argh! Yours appears to be completely different to mine, mine just appears to have a totally different throttle and about an inch of foam crap.

Here's the pictures.

Difference is I have a throttle cable going through that hole, yours doesn't seam to have that.

Hate to triple post but I managed to get this done!

I found the rubber grommet on the inside of the engine bay where the bonnet release goes through and poked the grommet out with a screwdriver, then the cable went through easily. Only problem is I now have no rubber grommet on there and the edge of the hole in the firewall is rather sharp, but I will try putting a different grommet on it today.

hi

i just did the amp connection from my battery to my amp in my boot

i did not pass the live cable near the clutch as explained earlier , i passe in from my boot directly inside

if you see just behind your engine you have an oval cap for the a\c coolant etc
just release it a little and then pass the cable inside
you can use a small wire as guide to make it

then you can just pass the wire inside to you boot or wherever you want to get it

if you need any help for that ill post pics of the works i did on mine

cheers
