Clutch pedal down, BANG, then no clutch pedal!

  2014 Clio 200t edc
Driving through town tonight, stopped, pressed the clutch to engage first, big bang then clutch pedal goes limp. Can't do anything. After stressing and firking about under dash, thinking that the cable has snapped, it appears that the cable 'ball' has come out of the 'cup'.
Has this ever happened to anyone? My pedal creaks but no other issues and hasten to add this is the first time this has happened.

is the pedal is limp then it will most likely be the cable,

either that or the release bearing may have collapsed but these usually make a lot of noise before they go!!

It's gone back on no problem and is working 'ok' now. Just can't see why it would jump off. Do bits need replacing?

Yep, it'll happen again. I'd do the clutch pedal also as the rachet mech/cable guide will be worn to.

Same thing is happening to me!
First yesterday and thought the clutch cable snapped. Had it towed home then now in a safe place I got my head under the driver dashboard and saw the cup and ball thing was uncoupled and pushed them together. Today same thing kept happening to me every 30 or so time i had to change gear or stop at lights as was driving home from work and was very scary as when it bangs out you can then not stop if engaged in gear, try and get close to the kurb and stall to a stop. Then open your door in live traffic and push them back together.

Im not sure whats worn out if its the ball or cup? Does anyone know a permanent fix to this problem?

right now Its really terrifying and scary each time I need to press the clutch while driving.
