Ordered the bronze. The shiny lip will no doubt be a PITA to keep clean and only 0.25kg lighter. 6 week wait!

Saved myself £110 on the train ticket down to Taunton as my bro owed me a favour. So obvs I had to have a look on MX5 parts.

Ordered the genuine sill covers, a better bee sting aerial and a new genuine Skyactive badge for the back - as the DIY paint on the old one, was turd.

Get ‘em coated mate. No more than an hour’s graft tops and it’ll save you much arse-ache in future.

KKD R-evolve is pretty much the daddy. Expensive but highly rated. Otherwise the usual ceramic suspects 👍

Standard procedure mate. Gtechniq c5 or gyeon rim is my go to.

On the bummer side, taking one of the drl covers has proved to be a nightmare. So it's off to the bodyshop to have them removed and bumper repainted. Can't win em all!

Worth adding a couple of coats of Exo or similar over a wheel coating. Anything to make future cleaning easier.

At least once painted you know it’s 100% right too 👌

Lovely car :)

I bought my first ND in october 2015. Received it in April 2016. Lovely car.

The ND2 184 is the perfect Mx-5 in my opinion.

Lovely car! So when are you taking it to BBR for a turbo 😂

On the ND2 did they fix the gearbox issues? The early ones were terrible and the diff wasn't great either.

Turbo?!?! How dare you. No but might take it for the 220 conversion once the warranty is up (manifold, cams, remap).

The 2019 is a lot better eyah, on its n'th revision by 2019. They're fine as long as you don't put loads of torque through them or drive like a bellend. Lot of USA dudes are fitting the heavier box out of the nc as it's stronger. It's all about the lightness for me. Whole pt of the car is to shed as many kgs. Wish I'd say the same about me

My friend has a BBR 200/220 NC and it's a riot. Its a shame that they had so many issues with the box in the ND. It was perfect in the NC they didn't need to change it. I guess as you say it was for lightness and most likely emissions.

I really don´t understand the ND gearbox issues. Over here in Portugal I only know about one car (2.0 160hp) having it replaced, but due to bearings going bad on it. All the other ND´s that i know (+20) running trackdays with me, zero problems. 1.5´s and 2.0´s . Same cars with R888 and others with UHP tyres.

The first time I heard about it was through Paul Roddison who races them. He had 2 or 3 from Mazda when they were brand new and had nothing but problems with them and iirc Mazda didn't want to know. I'm sure they have sorted it now.

I'm sure they are fine now, I didn't mean any negativity on the thread. Im sure @Danith did his research so it was more of a question if they had sorted it.

Oh yes, lockdown gave me plenty of time to research. Box doesn't worry me. It was the thin paint that did, which is why I took a basic white as the other colours are a nightmare to match and very expensive paint too.
There's also a minor issue that some rear hub bushes fail prematurely but it's only a Bush and mazda only sell the whole assembly at 650. Matter of time before there's a Bush replacement available, in fact polybush have just brought it out so others will follow suit.

Cleaning sesh this weekend. Removed the felt arch liners and stuff from the rear and gave it a good clean in the arches and rear suspension. Coat of acf50 for good measure. So much mud gets stuck in the liners and behind. No wonder mx5 rust. There is not a lot of underseal there either I noticed, but to be honest I'd rather see paint and then catch rust before it properly attacks. Mind you there's a 10 or 12 year corrosion warranty so, whatever.

Added the oem stainless kick plates, new badge for the rear (as mazda kindly use holes to attach the rear badges so had to cover them up! And my usual ph smiley sticker.

Few things done over the weekend. Got my plates on, fitted a smoked perspex wind blocker and added another PH smiley :) some bloke local to me makes the battery covers too, so got one of those in white.

Need to get the dashcam hardwire kit done this week and possibly retrofit some footwell LED's, with some spare strips I have left over (using the interior welcome light).

Took it for a good run yesterday around Cheshire, cannot stop grinning when driving it and uses half the fuel the Ep3 would have. Really did get this just in time for the weather we're having. The Eibach springs on this really have made the car more planted (test drove a couple with stock and it was very different). However there is still a fair bit of roll from it, especially at the back. It's how Mazda intended by the sounds of it, it's very soft and playful, but I'd like to firm it up a lot more and have it more precise, so.......

Ordered some more bits for it:

Eibach ARB's - (27mm F and 16mm R) - a quick google suggests stock are 22mm 11mm (the rear one is pathetic, I can see clearly)
HEL braided lines all round - £50 ebay bargain, just love the look of them if anything and will help if It goes on track as will chuck some ATE typ 200 in there
IL motorsport blue silicone intake hose - FB bargain, £20 why not

And as said, I've still waiting on delivery of the 17 x 8j Konig Hypergram wheels

If anyone sees any of those deals on Michelin PS4 please give me a shout! Will be after 4, in 215 45 17.

Hopefully will get into Blink Motorsport who specialise in these MX5. Looking to get in around mid July, to have all the above fitted and get it setup - alignment wise.

I'm sure Costco have a deal on PS4's atm Dan

yeah? when I looked it was 18s and bigger only. will take a look tho ta. There's a good deal on Goodyear assy 5's but I'll always wish I'd got the PS4 in case I take it on track. Can't beat Assy 5 though for road tyres. Even better deal if I went 225 45 17! £265 fitted for 4!

Do you rate the Goodyears over the Ps4's?

Sorry other way round lol

I rate the Goodyear over the Ps4 for 100% road, yes definitely. You don't get to maximise the PS4 on the road and the GY are so much better wearing and that little bit more compliant. And less costly too. For any road car, I'd pick the GY if they're cheaper, 100%. I feel they might be that little but too soft to take onto a track day though. Wouldn't be terrible, but I'd always wish I'd spent a bit more and got the PS4. For the mileage I'll be doing in this I think it's better to get the PS4.

nice one, thanks.

They have brought out a supersport too, no idea how much better they are etc. Can get the Goodyear at 65 plus vat through work.

Yeah I have the supersport on my Octavia (235 35 19). Were only a couple of quid more than the Assy 5 so went with those. They come on less mm though, but they are better than the Assy 5. Supposedly the equivalent of PS4. Seem ok.

Have a look into Falken FK510's Dan, proper decent tyre. Currently run them on my 330d, and they perform brilliantly. 90% of the PS4 performance for 50% of the cost. They even have a similar tread pattern to the PS4. When getting them fitted there was a set of ASY5's in the workshop and the difference in sidewall stiffness was night and day, much like the PS4's again. I even tried the Falken's at Oulton on the family fun day we did and they felt great.

Ok nice one will take a look. Just that Goodyear and Michelin usually do snazzy deals when you get 4 (ATS, Black circles and Costco seem to do them)

*edit - just seen the link, that's a good price!!

I really like this, looks brilliant. I will get a convertible one day

Don't think this could be any more different to your Range Rover/Porsche 4x4 thingy. It's tiny. It's a bit weird being exposed to everything in a soft top, had some nugget in a G reg Sierra Estate (all maxed out) overtake me on Sunday, all I could smell was his fumes.

Last time I drove a convertible I was sitting at the traffic lights on a dual carriageway and someone through a McDonald’s milkshake into the back seat from the other side of the carriage way lol

yeah I'd get a bit paranoid in it, if I still lived in the city centre. Do feel like a sitting duck

Had a good handful of drives out in this while it's been sunny. Definitely glad I've ordered the arbs, it's very soft on the rear! Had a few twitchy hoop moments on motorway slip roads, ha.
Messaged a bloke who was in at Donington last time I went, in a fiat 124 abarth. Asked him which drop links he recommended and ended up buying his wilwood 6 pots off him. Were too good a price to turn down. Drove over to ladybower to meet him and talk shop. He did warn me the calipers had been DIY painted as he didn't like the red. Initially I was just going to spray them up myself and do the rears to match. But with the car being pretty new and me having ocd, I decided to get them professionally done. Dropped them off today at Brake caliper refurbs (great name) in Rochdale, tonight. They do a proper job, strip, new seals, refurbed pins, bolts the lot. Will be asking him to do them in this awesome blue colour and have the 'Wilwood 6 piston' decals in white.
Also took delivery of these bargain 215 45 17 Falken fk510 as suggested by Phil, above.
Wheels should arrive soon so need to get the tpms bought and have then fitted, before arbs and alignment at Blink in mid July.
Also a little Amazon belter, 8 quid anodized red button cover. Cos big red buttons are more fun.
Also a better sized (and functioning) moss stubby aerial/antenna.

very nice this, great choice. I'm a big fan of the mx5, had three, mk1 race/track car which i still have and need to use more! , a modded NC which was my daily and track car, and replaced that with the Recaro ND for me daily , and the ND was better out the box then the modded mk3 was tbh. The mk4 is like a modern mk1, they really did get it right with the ND , light and fun but with all the modern options you need (y) . Also after years/thousands of miles and track days, never had a single issue with any of them

I'd love the seats out of a Recaro or 30AE (Recaro really with the red trim). Bet they're a nightmare to get hold of though. Much nicer seat.

Which pads can you get for these 6 pot Wilwoods mate? These are brand spankers but be good to know what my options are in case these are a bit too track orientated/high dust.

Looks tremendous. Big fan! Driven a number of RFs all in red and just like the mk3, they're brilliant. Gearbox and engine always a great combo.

Quite like the panda theme. Suits the car. They're just so much fun!

Enjoy the brake upgrade!

the Recaros were awesome, and fitted me really well. Only added to the driving position/experience , but getting hold of some without getting from the dealer ££££ will be a tall order i reckon

I'll send you a PM about the brake pads for those Wilwoods mate, I've got them before for an ND owner (y)

Got the nasty front drl covers off finally. Managed to get 1 off myself but the other was properly fixed on. And I was damaging the bumper trying to get it off. So got it done properly at a bodyshop near me, highly recommended too. Hard to find a good body shop. He removed the front DIY painted mazda badge too, so I've put an oem silver one back on.

Think I'll do the rears too at some point.

Wheels won't be here til mid July and arbs not til end of August! No big deal.

Won't be able to fit the wilwoods til I get the wheels though, unless I get some shims for these oem fitment wheels.
