drilling airbox

firstly no i am not stupid, hypothetically if i did do it 2my rt (drilling the holes outside the filter and facing away from hot bits of the engine) would it sound better without affecting perfomance? how many holes?

notice i used the word "hypothetically" to cover my ass if sum1 sed that:D

i was lookin at gettin a piperx1 (not the viper!) r these ne good? i dont want any power loss!!!

Will sound better, had it on mine, wont boost your performance at all, may lose a tiny bit in theory - will sound better though.

I had 1 1.5inch ish hole in the front near the cold air pipe, that wasnt in any way calculated - just the first hole cutter bit i found!

Buy a replacement element, like a K&N or something and then get an exhaust. Thatll be enough, anyway its summer, ur airbox wil prolly let in more hot air with holes in it and for the noise its not worth it.

dont do it and if you do make sure you got a spare airbox, because you will put it on after and realise what a complete waste of time it is!

face it - loads of people do it, i did it years ago - for the sound - you do lose power in theory but not noticably, its easy to say buy a IK but not everybody wants to do that!!

With a performance element in a airbox with a extra hole you have effectively got yourself a IK - as long as youve got another cold air feed up to that hole which was what mine had.

If you do do it, get another airbox like has been said cos its better for when you do decide to flog the car.

On the RT the IK sucks more hot air than a hole in the airbox ever could.

You could just get a replacement filter for inside the airbox, the drill holes (make sure its on the side not facing the engine!) You wont lose much power, when i did it to my old car it sounded better than an aftermarket induction kit. In fact i liked the noise so much i didnt bother with a different exhaust for ages. Induction kits do F all anyway performance wise, its the noise your after, and drilling is the cheapest way after all.
