Easiest way to remove 172 exhaust manifold?

  ClioSport 172 Cup
Anyone on here got any tips on removing one?? My first time and want to make life as easy as poss.. Can they be removed from the bottom when car is on a lift or do you have to remove inlet manifold and take them out through the bonnet??

Cheers,

Samuel

Removing to fit a 182 manifold? If yes then you will need to drop the subframe, if your just removing the 172 manifold to refit then inlet manifold off possibly the breather plate too and out through the top.

Ok 182 mani and cat fitted. Ridiculous vibration between 1000 rpm and 2000rpm, at 3k onwards barely noticeable. F**cked engine mounts, car is at 94k????? Its only started since the 182 mani was fitted. Anyone else had this problem?

Just something else to add also. Since fitting the 182 mani I can literally swing off the back off the engine now and it feels as solid as a rock, the engine doesnt budge!!!! the whole car moves with it. The engine mounts seemed tightened up so I'm confused. Feels like the engine is welded to the car.

Are there normally issues like this when fitting the 182 mani on the 172 engine? Do you mean its jammed as in it needs a good clunk from a hammer to free it? or the mani is sitting too low period?

The whole exhaust does seem to be hanging slightly lower than before, when i went over a speed bump today it scraped..

Ok I have discovered the 182 mani is gently resting on the subframe. This seems to be enough to cause this almighty vibration, the whole car buzzes below 3000rpm(i can feel it through steering wheel, my seat is vibrating, its ridiculous).
Its come as a bit of a shock to me because from what I`ve read on forums the 182 should fit fine on the 172 engine without this sort of problem, I`ve not read about this? Unless anyone on here has had a similar issue when fitting the 182 mani??
I`ve ordered some new renault engine mounts as I`m going to try and eliminate the obvious things first. If anyone else has any ideas though in the mean time I would appreciate help or advice.

My first though were it could have been bent. Rear ended car could have bent the mani!

Do you have any pics of he mani?

Please can someone help ? :( So p***ed off now with this. Took it back to my mechanic today as its still touching the subframe causing vibrations between 1000 and 3000rpm including during engine braking(its horrible, my hands are literally buzzing after driving it). He has had a look and has basically said he doesnt know what to suggest and has just said see what you can find in the cliosport forum!. We have tried messing with the engine mounts(pulling it forward, pushing it back), i have even spaced the top engine mount to try and lift the engine up and it didnt help! All I'm left with now is the idea of whether i am going to have to modify the subframe somehow(but would this be safe)...i'm beginning to wonder whether it has been rear ended or something, it really doesnt look it... but its just not making any sense.. one of the secondaries is basically resting on the subframe where they both join to the downpipe secttion, its as if the thing is sitting too low...literally lifting it 5mm at this point would make all the difference, but nothing is working!
I need someone to look at it who knows what they are looking at.

if its bent is there any way something can be modified to make it at least work without touching the subframe?, when the car is jacked up on axle stands the vibration goes away...its as soon as its back down on its wheels. im getting really annoyed. it took like half a day to fit too.

Do you want me to bring it to you???? Its driveable, i'm just worried the vibrations and that manifold touching the subframe is going to damage something over time. :/

Hi Fred,

Can you message me your address please? Are you open at weekends or just weekdays?

Sam

Have a look in the BTM trader section...

Fred is based near Birmingham airport!

I would inspect all the engine mounts...

Is the manifold touching the subframe when the exhaust isn't attached?

My mechanic at the moment has just sleeved it onto the cat and tightened with an exhaust bracket. I`ve been looking again and i`m wondering whether he hasn`t lined everything up properly, the cat wont fully tighten up against the flange on the manifold, there is a gap.My dad reckons maybe the exhaust system is too long.
