not used my car for the past few days...Just started her up in the garage and revved the engine after the car had been running for a few mins and now the engine managment lights come on.....on its own

Never had any problem before and just seems strange how its come on on its own from just revving the car?

Any ideas what this could be?

Thanks

Its common in this weather, its to do with the exhaust gas's iirc.

After 3 clean starts it will go away.. again iirc.. nothing to worry about.

Mine did it a couple of times last winter.

I had the same this year. went off after a couple of starts.. your manual will tell you that its some kind of gases thing. i think its the red engine light that you need to worry about

Its the exhaust gas warning light will be the cat having a funny because its been stood for a bit. It might go off on it own but otherwise it'll need the fault codes reset to take it off, give me a shout if you want it doing i've got the diagnostic tackle to do it and i'm not far away.

I leave it for a for days to see if it does go off.

It'll be the downstream llambda if not. They are cheap to buy 2nd hand and the light goes out on it's own!

Id ignore people who say its nothing to worry about, cars underfuelling or overfuelling can lead to a whole host of problems so its best not to just ignore it. Its not an immediate problem is probably the best description. The warning light as pointed out is an exhaust gas emmision warning light. Most likely it is a lambda sensor, which one (they have 2) is something only a diagnostic can tell you. My advice (and im currently doing this to mine) is to get the fault code and find which lamda, get the fault cleared. If it comes back on again, get a new Lamda, if not it then it should be ok.

Been out to work in it today got home and it stinks of egg...whats that a sign of?

the cat's gone?

Thanks

  BMW M135i
Eggs is usually a shot cat, if the emissions warning light is on its dead most likely no fault code reader needed.

So if i was to use a code reader would it pick the cat up as the fault?

Also is it safe to use for say the next 2 weeks ,as i cant see me getting it done before that being this time of the year.

Thanks

  BMW M135i
Is it under warrenty? I'd say the cats already fecked so you might as well carry on. The fault code reader will show Circuit 1 Bank 1 O2 Sensor fault which means the cat downstream lambda isn't reading what it should.

You've got to be careful with some readers as they won't work with the Clio, if you wanted me to read the codes for you we could meet somewhere. Cheaper and quicker than buying a reader, up to you.

i would go and give it some beans down the motorway. Cats can get a bit eggy smelling if not used for a bit. if its still smells the cat is nackered. Oh and if its no longer under warranty don't ring Renault $$$$$$$$

Nah its not under warrenty anymore.

Been out in it again tonight and no eggy smell.......Its only when i revved it hard that i could smell the egg:)

@Bmh

Thank for the offer fella but ive already just bought that code reader above ...thought it was cheap and could come in handy

Im hopeing its the correct one ive heard of U380 before :

Any ideas guys: http://talktomycar.co.uk/Shop/Code_Readers/mj003.htm

Only way to be 100% will be to try it really, it looks similar to the one ktec sell so you should be ok.

Would you say its ok to use the car then?

Thanks

Yeh it'll be fine. If its fooked its fooked so you can't make it any worse, if its not it'll just give it some use.

Strange, the same light was flashing on mine last night as well. Was idling funny as well but seems to running fine again this morning for some reason :S

Is it only Renault that have the fault readers? Getting it serviced in a couple of weeks so will try and get it looked at.

Just got my code reader today....seems to work...i think.

It comes up with

fault 1 pend 0

and i scroll down and it tells me the fault code as

N/A 01/01

would you say its best to erase the code to see if it turns the light out?

Thanks

Wahey..it worked the lights now out.

I was'nt too sure whether its best to erase the code or not with it coming up with N/A.

Anyways ..just unplugged and started and the lights now out:)

Thanks alot fella for you help....much appreciated.
