Epic Driving Meet...

I've just been looking through some old photos, missing my Ph1 a bit. :dapprove:

This is a video from the infamous Lakes meeting in 2006 (the one where that chap in the DC2 hit the motorcyclist, I'm sure most of you know) I was speaking to the fella just before we set off. :dead:

Me and Naith need to sort something similar out for next Spring. I'll set up the camera again. I reckon Norfbest could top this turnout.

If you don't watch all of the video, watch from 4m 30s onwards, as it gives you an idea of just how many cars were there (40+)

And that section is dual carriageway, before anyone asks. Mine's the Ph1 172 behind the camera car, if you didn't already know.

The thought of having 40 cars on a driving meet quite frankly frightens me now!!!

99% were really well behaved. I think it'd be the same now in our area. We've not really got any mentalists anymore.

I haven't been on a CS as such in years, we (Pistonheads) tagged along the Scottish Spital of Glenshee run, but we kept ourselves at the back or at the front away from the mass of cars. To dangerous and too smaller margin for error!

Yeah. The strange this was, he was talking to Ad and me about how we've got to be really careful. Literally five minutes before we all headed out.

They went a different route to us, later on. That's when it happened. Around the time when that second part of the video was filmed... 4 mins onwards.

I've developed a massive soft spot for the PH-1 172's now! I loved a couple I saw at the RR at TDF and I love yours in that video.

Anybody wanna p/ex a Ph1 172 for a LY 182? Lulz.

what happened to the bloke on the motorcycle? is there an orignal thread from this meet?

Partially paralysed. :dapprove:

Really, really sad. There's a thread on here about the chap's story. Try a search in General Chat.

Not much was mentioned in the meet thread.

back in the day' the me and the local lads from round here went on runs to Lady Bower, peak district etc. and we drove like true knob heads, over taking 2 - 3 cars, "racing" from point to point like rood boi's

Now when I think back, it really does scare and shock me! Would never do it now  some of the manoeuvres where just plain stupid and dangerous

Yep. Should be a lesson to us all.

That said, 99% of members on that meeting were spot on. It's just tragic about the other 1%

There's no way I'd go on any sort of driving meet unless with half a dozen people that I trust.

40+? f**k that!

looks like real good fun, amazing road, originally thought "god those typre rs and the trophy??? are brave overtaking on blind bends" until i noticed it was a dual carraigeway, do meets like this still exist?

Yep. I'll sort one in the Spring.

I'll be worth the travel. Not sure where you are.

i really want a ph1 172. i think they look so much sportier than the ph2's. only problem for me is the interior. fooking hate the blue dash and trim and wheel and gearstick gaitor. eugh. also the high mileage on many scares me as im not very mechanical. ph2's just look more refined

Ph2's are more refined. Too refined. I skipped the Ph2 and went straight to a 182. That's still not half as fun.

Ph1's > All

I actually love the Ph1 interior. Maybe that's because I had one. Leather wheel from an RSi and you're away!

The worst thing was, after reading the story about the guy in the DC2, he was just like any normal person on here, any enthusiast driving "enthusiastically".

It could have happened to anyone, i couldnt live knowing i'd altered a strangers life indefinatley.. :(

I can only think of one meet that I've attended where I didn't feel safe with the driving in the NW.

Shame I didn't get to see yours Gopher aka Carbon Copy ;)

I actually miss my Clio because I now look like a randomer in an Audi following a load of Clios at meets! Used to love being in a group of 10 or so, pootling along.
