Espace V6 airbox set-up Queries

  Monaco
First of all I'm aware this is fairly useless without pictures but it is way too dark to take any. I got home from work at 9.30 and was a bit bored so fitted it straight away :). So I kind of need help from people who has fitted one (or a JMS set-up/ Ph1 172 etc.)

So my first observation was that there is one less intake hole. I knew this before buying it and am aware that the larger 100mm diameter V6 hole delivers potentially a lot more air. However i had to disconnect the smaller of the two standard intake pipes. Now I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I'm not too happy with just having the hole there so wondering what other member's solutions were?

Another thing; I fitted it to the existing engine-to-airbox Pipe/hose. This is because it had a sensor in it and was scared to tamper with it. What is this sensor? I also did not want to trim this hose down due to the fact I'm not 100% sure I want this induction set-up. This means it is a very tight fit. So tight that it is actually fouling on the fan housing. is there some way of holding it in place? A bracket maybe? Again... what were other members solutions to this?

Finally - now i haven't driven it yet - but i fancy getting a performance filter. I was browsing the BMC range but couldn't actually find the right filter (they usefully have the dimensions of each filter on their website but none matched mine). Where and what have members managed to get performance filter wise for the Espace V6 box

Any replies greatly appreciated.

[EDIT] I should add i will get pictures of this tomorrow morning for about 9ish to aid my description

The hole will get enough air, there is a slight gap that comes from the corner of the grille and directs air to the opening.. if you are a perfectionist then cover the whole where the previous air feed from the bottom of the standard airbox was.

The 'sensor' from the elbow isn't a sensor, it just pumps any oil into the elbow so it is burnt in the mani. It is simply for environment regulations. Make a catch tank like I had mine set up.

Make sure the elbow is fitted properly and the airbox is pushed right up. You won't need any brackets but there is a strap the ph1 had if you are worried. It isn't needed though.

Easiest option (as I don't know sizes etc.) is to contact JMS for the pipercross filter they sell with there set up.

HTH :D

the holes, are they just the original air feeds to the standard filter? just remove all the feeds and get rid.

This sensor???? is it the hose that runs from the back of the inlet and into the corner of the hose? if so as said above it's just an oil return. either use a breather filter and silicone 90' bend or the samco elbow has this part with it. get a silcone bend or elbow and you can trim it if needed to miss the fan. I used the strap off the v6 and the Ph1 172 to hold it against the battery bar.

The paper filter on the V6 box is the same as the Ph1 172 filter, do a search for that and you'll get loadsa options,

Thanks very much! That made everything clear. Any idea why Renault chose to disperse unburned oil back out into the induction set-up. Just seems a little odd?

lots of manufacturing have been doing it for years as it cuts down on emmissions by venting it to atmosphere, same as the carbon canister.
