What mpg you all getting at the mo.

Mine has plummetted from getting c250miles from a tank to 180 tonight when the light came on!

Can it drop that low purely as a result of a temp drop? Mine barely gets warm you see by the time I get to work.

Or should I go check the new fuel filter I put on 4 weeks ago to make sure it isnt leaking?

One other question. Where are the fuel lines in the engine bay? Ill give them a check over as well.

Ok, so I dont have a 16v.. but my Williams which should be pretty much the same..

29mpg.. its about 260/280 to a tank on average.

I only drive mine on weekends and sometimes on an evening. But normally get around 250 + (prob more to be honest) from a tank.

(I go easy mind )

I remember the dci I had went like this last year.

It was getting c55mpg and then suddenly, when December hit, it was only returning c35mpg. After bricking it at first I just assumed it was weather related.

Theres no smell of petrol about the car apart from when you first start it up, but its not very strong. Just that old car fuel smell you get in winter.

My only assumption is that since Ive put new oil in and had the new cooling system, its taking soooo much longer to warm up that its not quite at full operating temp by the time I reach work.

Plus I commute in heavy stop/start traffic which could only compund the problem.

So to sum up my main concern is, given the above, could such a drop in mpg occur as a result of really cold weather?

Mike that doesnt sound right mate i think youll have a leak somewhere...to £40 on the motorway I got 350miles and then staying at 70mph on the way back from cornwall got about 400 to £40!!!

Around town i get about 180 to £20!

Not sure what i get. Normally bout 70miles to £10. My last stop was at 60 miles.:(. Im using more fuel now its cold. My pipercross is workin hard for me in thes cold days.:D

i use optimax as well so a bit more expensive, but i only put a tenner in at a time cos of the size of the tank!

pretty good really considering!

I always thought that youd use more fuel at the start of the journey due to it running richer while cold (anyone remember manual chokes? lol)

This could be why your mpgs dropped - it never gets warm so its always running with the choke out!

(I may be completely wrong of course... lol)

60 miles to a £10 im getting, that was the same b4 i had a full service and replacing the fuel filter

When the light came on at 180 miles I stopped at asda about 5 miles later to put a tenner in (I normally fill up at Shell on the way to work so will do that tomorrow).

Off this tenner Ive done about 60miles and the light has come back on. It doesnt sound too bad then. Ive been running the engine warm off this tenner and since a normal fill up is about £40, that should get me 240miles.

I can only assume therefore that its down to th fact the engines cold and its running a bit rich as a result.

i get about 80-90 miles on my RT to a tenner of cheap supermarket petrol.

or 30 miles if i just do my normal work run lol.

bearing in mind this is on a 1.4 RT

Around 75-80 miles on a tenner with the williams lump, pretty much the same as the old 1800 lump.

  don't

on the rsi ive had this worry aswel, was getting about 80-85 off of £10 a while back as exhaust was blowing at the de-cat,

fixed that and thought great will be back to 200 off of £20, or even more as im doing 55mph alot of the time, but im only just scraping 200 miles off it

so yea the cold weather is being a pain in the arse, bring on the warmer weather

In four years of 16V and Williams ownership, the best I got was 400 miles to a tank (55mph all the way from Wales to Edinburgh) and the worst was about 250 miles (ragging it in the Williams).

I think the average was about 35mpg in the 16V and 33mpg in the Williams.
