FFS . . . I was shocked!

So today i visited reno to take my dad to pick up his car from its service. Got chattin to a mechanic about my car and i was telling him that my car had the exhaust highlighted by birchddown on an advisory note as ''tatty''. NOW , i know the stealerships dont get that name for nothing so i thought id pop the question . . . . ''Could you price me a full exhaust system please , parts only.''

So the guy at the parts desk disappears after taking my reg plate and re-appeared with a printed receipt. Heres how it read ::eek:

That is excluding labour^^^^^^ i am in shock. Please dont think id buy the standard system for that kinda cash when i could get a good aftermarket for a 1/4 of that price!

Makes you wonder what the total of all the parts on a 182 would come to, if you bought the car parts all seperately. £50,000+ ?

wonder if any unsuspecting person would actually pay that, i.e a non car fan who just happend to own a 182/172??

thats crazy. near enough half a cars value on a exhaust!!!

yip if you want ill pm you them. i asked sneakily for a 36k service on top of the exhaust to get it done at same time. He said ROUGHLY 3k:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Lol. A cat for a 320 CDI is only like £800. Why would you need a new cat unless you've driven it like a granny for moon miles?!

That is disgusting. There are so many people out there with 182's who don't know any different then to simply pay the stealer prices too..... Renault just taking these poor people and bending them over backwards.

i dont need it , i only asked him out of curiosity! If people dont beleive me ill take a pic of the print out he gave me.

Its just The back box that is tatty? so you dont need a cat?.
I was quoted 500 ish for a new back box on my 182 as it was tatty, it was still "tatty" but not blowing 2yrs later when I sold it.
I would have replaced it with the Janspeed system for £350 if I needed to.

no i dont need a cat. Not sure which aftermarket to get. Dont really want a noise off it apart from IK

ktec recessed is quiet. or stealth. slightly, but only very slightly noisier than std.

2k for an exhaust? :)

I thought 400 was excessive for after market.

my old escorts after market brand new was 230 quid magnex cat back s/s and that is a bigger car so surely more effort / metal work went into it?

The K-Tec twin silenced UltraPerformance exhaust is the same, if not quieter than standard once moving. I've just taken one off and gone back to standard, and the car's louder when booting it lol

Id have said "thats really cheap mate, thanks" Just to see if he says things like "yes it is" then mock him.

For a fact, as soon as my exhaust falls off my 182, i'll be going after market and even with a fast road cat you'd be all in for around £650.

I had to do the same thing, they 'only' wanted £1200 off me though.

I gave my money to Ktec and got stainless steel for £600.

much more like it!

interesting. i thought all aftermarket exhausts would give off a noise

you can pick up as new cats of 182s/172s on the bay every so often, I got one for £35 I use for MOT time as mine cracked.

Report them to that tv programme... the one where they set them up and ask them why they charge so much for a job which is simple... take a pic of the invoice thing so we can see - i just want to laugh a little harder

Just tried to charge me 73 quid for a fairly small and simple gasket between the cam cover and oil separator.

He then added that prices are going up on 1/4/09 so buy anything you need before then!
