Finally buying a 182

After months of waiting and waiting im about set to go ahead and buy a 182. Now its decision time. Iv had a quick look locally and have come up with two cars.

1.Dealer - FF Black Gold 49000 years MOT/Tax and will p/x my car for £500 meaning i pay £5500.

2.Private - FF Black Gold 41000 5 months MOT/Tax , a little further to view £5250.

Option two is a little more appealing as its cheaper and better miles. Although it would mean having to shift my car and possibly loosing value on it. Option 1 has the bonus of getting it from a dealer meaning i get warrenty etc...

Any recomendations folks?

Thanks,

Paddy

Will you get any kind of warranty with buying from the dealer for a few months? worth a bit extra.

And what are you P/X? what's it worth if you sold privately in the current market

For the saving your getting, without as much tax and MOT i'd go for the one at the stealers. I'd also push the stealers to change the belts as part of the deal so you know exactly when the belts were changed. 8000 miles isn't much difference and like you said the dealer one if its been ragged etc will have lots of problems but you can get them fixed under warranty, the private one you'll be paying yourself.

Only time i'd buy private is if i was getting it like 1-2k cheaper, that would potentially cover any costs you have for problems with the car, unless your really unlucky and get problems costing more than that.

Not 100% sure on warrenty but im sure i could get it thrown in/pay extra. The car at the dealers has just been serviced so i guess thats the belts all done but again i need to check.

My car is a P reg escort si. Got around 130 o nthe clock. I bought it of a mate who is a mechanic so its all sound. I need to MOT/Tax it first so thats another 200 ish and i paid 500 6 months ago. So £700 spent id look for around £500 back and £4-500 px isnt too bad.

Not every service involves changing the belts, so definately check, get proof and if they've not been done insist that they are.

I think you'd struggle to get your money back on the escort anytime near or after christmas. Having to get tax and MOT 6months sooner I'd opt for the dealer and get them to throw in 3 - 6months warranty to be safe. An extra 8k miles on a car these days is hardly anything really. Unless you can knock down the price of the private car by another £500

take the p/x not many dealers wuld give you 400 min for a ford escort .there not very desired these days and its gona be hard to shift in a private sale

Yea i will do. Bar the belts is there anything else major needing done? Just once iv bought it and got insured i wont have too much cash to spend and want a pretty sound car that will last until next mot/service.

Iv been quoted £834 plus my mum on the car if she needs to use it for 12 months. Is that a pretty good deal?

My advice would be to look at a lot more cars further afield, compare condition, miles and price and then you'll get a better feel for the market and what you'd expect to get for what money. I looked at about 30 before I got mine, and in the end I went for low miles and good condition for a slightly higher price.

how old are they, might be due the cambelt in the not too distant future

oh and black gold is a t**t to keep clean

The dealers one is a 55 plate and private 04. So more reason for the dealers i suppose.

Yea i have read B/G is a b**ch to keep clean. Ive been after a B/G or R/B and have looked at the RB cup on here but would much rather have a FF 182.

The 04 would need a 5 yr service anytime from March (Cambelt/Aux Belt etc) so that swings even more in the favour of the dealer option.
