Fog light on when braking & dodgy battery

Since I got the car, the fog light indicator comes on, on the dash when I brake (not sure if the actual fog light comes on...). I know the brake lights are fine, friends have told me they work. But I imagine it's a bad earth, where do I need to check? The rear light cluster?

Also, I went to drive the car yesterday, it unlocked fine, all lights came on, dash on, but wouldn't start. immobiliser light went out, car turned over, just didn't start. Wondering if the 2 are linked and there is a 'leak'?

I'm going to do some troubleshooting tonight and see what I can find out, but any pointers would be helpful!

Clean the plug terminals that connect the rear lights. common problem.

thanks, I'll get some wirewool. Would that get into the connectors? Or wet/dry?

Also sometimes the earths need cleaning up which is under the carpet behind the rear lights.

The fog light, and battery issue wont be related.

The battery drain could be the alternator, get a multi meter out and test it

Connectors clean and fog light flashing has gone!

Battery issue was actually an immobiliser issue, I swapped the key housing over and must have done something. The light wasn't staying on though, so didn't think that was the problem. Anyway, held the unlock button with the key in the ignition for 10 seconds, locked, unlocked and it worked.

Sandpaper and contact cleaner is the way forward. I have a dodgy earth in the boot as the little round plugs next to the rear lights are loose letting water in which runs down onto the earth.
I actually watched my lights flashing slightly with the hazards during the MOT haha.

Yep, sandpaper for the pins, the other side I just scraped a screw driver on them. Probably not a long term fix, but it's obviously taken a bit of crap off. Not much space and in the rain with a torch I was struggling!

Cleaned mine up, still there. Moved the bulbs around, and it fixed it, wahoo! But it stopped my left brake light working. So the issue follows the bulb. Swapped back, brake light works, fog light comes on dash. All my bulbs have the single metal connection in the middle, apart from the problem bulb which has the two half circle connections either side, so I guess it's the wrong bulb.

Can anyone help with the name of said correct bulb so I can order the correct one? Thanks

Bought a new bulb and moved them around and it's all fixed, bosh! Mechanic Davy strikes again
