Front mount intercooler on standard engine?

cant use them on n/a engines, turbo cars blow air into the engine where n/a engines suck the air in, the engine would need to suck the air though the inlet manifold, through the intercooler piping, through the intercooler and through the air filter you would loose loads of torque and throttle responce

i suppose in theory you could use a small one near the throttle body with a vent in the bonnet to vent air through it but still the gains would be minimal at most id imagine

Haha sorry for my ignorance! I had one on my old Fabia vrs but werent sure it if it would help on the 172!
