Gaming PC or Xbox One?

Hi Guys,

Just trying to decide whats best for me requirements.

I'd be using the PC with an Xbox controller.

I mainly play Fifa/GTA etc.

These would be through my 37" 1080 display.

Would a PC be more useful, or would I struggle to get a powerful one for the cost of an Xbox One?

You won't get a powerful one for the cost of an Xbone, if you spent double you'd be much happier imo with a decent pc.

You may be able to match the spec of the Xbone with the same cost, but its tight!

If you're playing multiplayer, then go with where your friends are imo.

For a decent spec rig you are looking at 3 or event 4 times the cost of an xbone. I have built and try to stay ontop of my now very dated PC, When I first built it 4 years ago, it was an average to good gaming rig at best and it cost me around £600-700 to spec it up. Its now pretty out of date but still does its job and has become more of a home entertainment system living next to my TV. I wont use it for serious gaming anymore, to bring it up to spec would be too much money, they go out of date so fast!

Xbone sounds like it might suit you better, its "future proof" in the sense that there wont be a new one out for another 7-10 years so it wont go "out of date"

I was in the same boat, ended up going ps4.

The only reason I wanted the gaming pc was to mod GTA5 ha.

You'd probably be better off keeping things simple and going with one of the new consoles (XBox One or PS4). Just don't expect an amazing catalogue of games for a few more months yet. It's still early days and the launch lineup of games wasn't exactly mindblowing! :)

PC all the way. ;)

But that's my personal bias. If you're simply looking at the likes of FIFA & GTA, then a console is the way to go. Arguably with a PS4?

Cheers,
D.

Definitely agree. I don't know Waitey, but I have a feeling he isn't the type to start obsessing over graphics cards.

I love my PC gaming, but there's a time and a place. The majority are better suited to a console. Personally I roll both ways. If I had to pick one cunsole, it would be Wii U.

TBH I haven't felt the urge to look at the new consoles yet, as far as I'm concerned the best console is still the 360. But if you wanted a new one I'd probably edge for the PS4 at the moment.

A gaming PC is a different setup, instead of chilling out in your living room with your partner free to talk to you, you'll be in another room, at a desk, facing a wall.

Not necessarily. You can perfectly well setup a gaming PC in a lounge environment, should you wish.

Personally though I like the distinction. Consoles for social gaming in the lounge, and PC for more hardcore personal gaming with superior visuals and frame rates.

I would have agreed with this up until very recently.
I've got my gaming PC set up on my TV so that when it starts up it boots straight into XBMC with Plex running in the background. Using the Xbox 360 controller I can then stream live TV, watch movies and TV shows, play my emulators or load Steam up using Steam Big Picture. All without a keyboard and mouse :approve:
Admittedly it did take a long time to set up but once it's all working there's no reason to use a console other than for the exclusives such as Forza and the online play with friends.

PC gaming with a console controller though? Feels a bit wrong whenever I've done it. Not because it doesn't work, just that my favourite thing about PC is not being restricted to accessories bought in GAME etc.

What simracing setup have you got McGherkin? I've shown my lass pictures of racing seats with triple monitor setups and she's like LOL. I will get it one day though!!

Nothing amazing at the moment, G25 with a Logic3 joystick setup as the handbrake, but I'm trying to hook up a set of 172 dials (and house them in a cut down top dash), using a Symprojects Pro Gauge and not having huge success. I need a copy of the pinout really.

Yep. Quite a few games are supported by the Simdash software, all the major sims, F1 series, DiRT series, and a load others. Have a look on YouTube ;)
