GAZ Coilovers - Suggestions of Noise Issue

  '03 MCS, MKV Ed30
Ever since i fitted the coilovers it sounds as the passenger side front spring makes more noise than it should, i.e - clanging like its not sat right.

BUT, It is. Ive had it up on the ramps and gone underneath.

Any other suggestions as to what the noise might be, its only on that side.

Cheers,

James.

I have the same problem with mine, can't work out what it is that's doing it. Just sounds like the spring twanging when steering??

Still doesn't answer the question as to why it happens as if it was a problem with quality then both fronts would do it.

I have the same coilovers i had this
Problem it was the top mounts not the coilover. I changed to solid top mounts problem solved

They're highly rated on every forum except this one.

They're not KW's or whatever, but they're certainly not Racelands either.

Sorry OP, I don't know what the cause is though.

Iv had similar problems with KTR solid top mounts - the bearing gets dry and sticks causing the spring to twang when it lets go

I think their brilliant tbh. I bought them second hand off here with freshly refurbed rear dampers.

I was going to get some adjustable top mounts but never got round to it.

Ill try swopping them to solid ones if I can find some reasonably priced. Any suggestions?

Are you going to replace them with better ones for free?

If not, your post is pointless - It doesn't sort the problem.

Sounds like a top mount.

As above, this is the only forum I've seen them slated. Had some before and other than being a bit over damped and crashy, I never had any issues.

The damper settings for each 'click' are too wide IMO.

The build quality is shoddy too.

Racing driver speak, nice Sam ;)

top mounts fella, the top hats on top of the springs aren't right, we solve it by adding a spacer UNDER the bearing

Other than the usual rust mine survived 18 months and 10k+ miles.

I wouldn't call them shoddy from the set I had, no leaks etc. The damping is poor though, but then this place fits racelands and the like. Go figure.

Thanks ill try that before doing the solid top mounts then.

Again, the opinions on wether or not these coilovers are good/crap/s**t/shoddy, dont sort the problem. They are hardly budget price range.

My bilsteins do exactly the same with solid top mounts. I will try the "washer fix" and see if it solves the creaking on mine.

Update this topic when you've tried it Emma so can see if theres an easy fix. Cheers.

shouldn't be an issue unless the top mount is binding on the suspension top hat on full lock, hence the spacer which allows a bit more room

  '03 MCS, MKV Ed30
Nice one.

Ill try that then. So inbetween the tophat and the bearing on the bottom of the top mount?

  Lionel Richie
just make sure the bearing can still work as a bearing, if the spacer is too big the bearing won't rotate and it'll make things worse!

I've got GAZ coilovers on my 106, and they are amazing not a problem.
The only noises mine make, is when driving less than 5mph you hear a tiny knock but this passed the MOT.
Also it makes that twang noise straight after it being jacked up as the spring settles back in to position.

Although, my friend had a 106 with GAZ coilovers too and his always use to twang when doing normal driving, nothing you can do. Most people think coilovers are silent, but they are racing suspension what else can you expect really. Hope it helps. :)

I dont expect them to be silent but I dont expect the noise.

To be honest, i've hardly noticed it recently so must of calmed down?

I've got Gaz gha's. I don't get any noise on the front even tho my top mounts are shot. My rears however do clunk and it's the rear springs not sitting on the platform properly. Does get annoying but I'm used to it now. It's been doing it since April.

Yea i have no complaints with mine at all.

Still need to get round to trying to sort this problem.

It makes noises because racing suspension? LOL

This is how well made gaz coilovers are:

That there, is the piston slopping about in the body of the shock absorber and quite frankly dangerous.

Nothing wrong with GAZ Suspension, ran my 182 with 20+ other clios and had the fastest lap time of the day with minimal mods and shot tyres, Also if the noise is just the spring its simply them settling in.
