Gearbox Thrust Bearing ?

  Astra 1.9Cdti SRi
Have a weird noise coming from my Gearbox/flywheel/clutch area, hard to describe the noise but here it is:

Now a mate of mine said it could be the thrust bearing, is that true?

i have no idea what it is tbh, and the last thing i want to do is having to remove the gearbox again, as its a pain in the arse ..

gearbox was bough from this lad (http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=432304) which it says runs beautifully etc, but its the first time iv tried to use the clutch since fitting the box, hmm

no, there was a clutch on the engine allready which had about say 30+k left onit, so didnt bother,

the noise gets louder when you touch the clutch fork aswell

Think this is going to be a lesson in false economies. If I ever took a box off for reasons other than the clutch then it'd be getting changed unless silly low levels of miles are involved.

What happens when you fully disengage the clutch? Noise worse?

Ye totally agree, i had my reasons why i didnt do it in the beginning tbh, but look like its coming off and il fit a new one on now.

Ye when i start the car the noise is there, when i press the clutch it get worse/louder.

Whats this release bearing fred talks of?

As the pictures shows its the part that presses against the centre of the pressure plate and disengages the clutch, obviously it needs to spin due to engine rotation so its a bearing. Its only really under load when you press the clutch or as you've done hold the release fork with your hand pushing the bearing against the pressure plate. As yours is bollocksed thats when it makes the most noise as its under load.

Ah great, atleast im gettin somewere now, would it be hard to change? guessing its a external bearing.. Is this also the release bearing fred was on about or is that a different part..

Cheers for your help lads,

I'm pretty sure this has just b****cks up on mine, I'll be getting it in somewhere ASAP to get it checked out and replaced. If so I'm guessing at a minimum of a full clutch kit.

Yep, any decent kit will come with a release bearing. 110% stick with a genuine valeo like that in my experience. Far far nicer than the pattern ones to use imo.

Box off, change clutch. Bearing just slides onto the input shaft bearing/oil seal casing of the box and slides along that.

Holy s**t, now i see what the real issue it..

Theres no sodding bearing in there, i remember puttin the box on and dont remember seeing a black bearing like that on there..

Box out tommorow then :)

There must be a bearing one there otherwise the release fork would've broken most of the finger off the pressure plate by now?!

Let us know how you get on.

LOL... I love these kind of threads!

I'll be changing my clutch in the new year, the release bearing sounds like a pot of nails being stirred with a power drill

Is that were the clutch fork sits in ye? also got like this cup type thing, thats suppose to go into the flywheel :s,

there was a kit for on ECP for £68, i was thinking about it but though buy cheap buy twice, so opted to pay extra £33 just to be safe.

would you guys always use valeo or a cheaper make

  BMW M135i
125% stick with valeo as fred says, theres a reason that qh one came out after 6k iirc. The valeo ones are far far superior, you get what you pay for and all that.
