Gearshift play/slack

I have just bought a 54 plate 182. The car as a whole is mint condition. However the gear shift appears to have a lot of play/slack in it. I'm not sure if this is normal and I'm just not used to it (my previous car had a very tight precise shift).

Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah it goes in fine, appears to be in good nick apart from the slack.

Could the dogbone engine mount cause this? A mechanic said mine was on the way out and it can cause play - no play in mine yet though

I managed to break a gearbox after 24k in mine. There not the strongest things.
Was replaced under warranty.

I doubt very much its the box. Generally that feels strong. Its just the shift.
