heater controls, 172

The heater on my 172 has packed up! the display still works i can press all the buttons and adjust every setting just no air blowing. i have removed the fan from under the scuttle panel and put 12volts to it and its fine. i can also hear the flaps inside the box changing from face, feet and screen settings when i press the buttons. has anyone ever had any problems with the electronic control panel im thinking its this that is the problem?
Oh and it has A/C.

so when you say the heater do you mean it still blows air but the instant heat doesn't work?

In what respect does the panel not work? From what I gather you mean it is adjusting inside and the motor is spinning to adjust the airflow position but are you saying it isn't blowing? or just it isnt blowing hot air? as you said "the heater on my 172 has packed up!"

there are several elements which can go underneath the scuttle pads. but a more indepth description is needed first to ascertain the problem.

as in my 1st post "no air blowing". ive not said that the panel does not work i was thinking that this may have been the problem. when i press the button on the display to adjust speed of the fan the lights light up as if its doing so but the fan just is not spinning. ive now swapped the control panel with a friend of mine and its still not working. i cant see how i can be anymore discriptive than what i have wrote in the 1st post. im gona look at the wiring 2moro. maybe dodgy earth or just no power to the fan.

It could be the connection to the pump ?? (assuming that the pump itself is kicking in)
I have the same prob at the min, I need to call them up again to get it booked in.

its the resistor pack, do a search there has been loads of threads on it.

yep deffo resistor pack, its under the scuttle pannel on the drivers side, ive sorted one by drying it out with a hairdryer, but tried it on another and it didnt work!!

yeh sometimes they self destruct and smoke comes out of your vents before the fan unit stops.

when we swapped the control panals over, mine worked fine, does all but when in robs, you can change the temp, speed etc but nothing happens - just seems to be on a mid temp and blowing only steady - nothing will change it

ahhh it all makes sence. is this resistor pack got a wiring loom to it and like a small heat sink? ive just had it all out and connected up with ignition on and i was wiggling wires thinking it maybe loose connection i then dropped the resistor pack on the engine and it shorted out, sh£t load of sparks came off it lol then the blower started working but now i cant stop it. i will go for a new ressitor pack then ive probably completly knackered it now lol. thanks for ya help peeps

went to renault today for the resistor pack they wanted £99!!! so i got one from a renault breakers in wolverhampton for £47. fitted it and its all good
