Heater not blowing??

  RS Clio 182
I need some help please, had coolant flushed and changed at weekend with new coolant temp sensor and now my heater fan won't blow? The climate control display works and you can feel very slight hot air but its not blowing even on full speed! Was told it could be the fuse but not sure which fuse to check/change!! :(

any help or advice is welcome!! Cheers

I think that it is a common problem for the heater resistor to go.

I would do as suggested first and check the fuse as that will be the cheaper option.

The fuse pannel is on the side of the dash. Open your passenger door and pop the small triangular cover off

Apparently if its the resistor then the fan will still blow at full speed? So I hope it's the fuse! Would you happen to know which fuse it will be?

If you pop the cover off they are all numbered and marked up.

When my resistor pack went the fan wouldnt blow at all, to see if its the resistor at fault, remove the resistor pack
and on the connector to the pack there are 5 pins that are numbered, if you bridge the connection between 1 and 5 the fans should blow at full speed indicating a faulty resistor pack

Cheers mate...if it is a dead resistor are the peeps on ebay who repair them worth the £30 or ahould i buy new at£130?

I bought a recon off ebay for £30, most offer a years warranty and mines been great for around 2 years
if you get it repaired 4 times at £30 your still in pocket
i highly doubt itll break 4 times lol

Will see if I can find a reconditioned unit too then unless you mean you brought the repair service? It better not go 4 times lol

Yeah thats what i meant, i sent mine to the seller
i doubt my exact one came back
most likely exchange service

Yeah it is easy to get to. Just make sure you don't drop the tiny bolts that secure the unit! You will be fine to drive, I covered the hole with some tape.

Read this a few days ago, low and behold, mine packed up Sunday on the way to work.

Bypassed the resistor pack to prove the fault. Ordered a new MOSFET thing, arrived today, fitted it and it's fixed!!

Middle pin was a mare to desolder though.

Sent mine to coolwill2k on eBay it cost me £33 all in for a refurb and got it back today, fitted in the dark and rain in 5 mins and all is well so far so am well chuffed

Yeah its good when you turn it on and it works! I went a January without one last year.

Seem to be a few gone lately, is that because of a current thread, or the cold weather a couple of days ago?

  Arctic Blue 182 FF
Could be the colder weather as the blower gets more use, mine went last jan/feb so i bought the resister and got a friend with a electrical repair shop to solder it in but it would only blow on low, when checked the board was damaged/burnt but i bought one off here for £40 result, its just a weak part like the front springs snapping on our rs cars

Had the 182 off the wife 2months ago and fixed all the weak points!
New rear shocks, new rear wheel bearings, new springs, new top mounts, heater repair, new inner track rods!

Disaster.

Fan ran ok for a couple of minutes, and then blew flat out. Got home, replaced the MOSFET with the spare I bought, and this lasted 30 seconds. Don't know now whether the unit is faulty, or there is a fault somewhere else on the car!

Need to find a wiring diagram to see what the other wires do.

Really p**sed off!

Man it seems like this is a real issue on the clios! What is the FET fix? FYI my repaired resistor still working so fingers crossed its all good! @ ianboom have you checked the 20amp fuse on the passenger side of car?

  Westfield, 182, 200
Hi

Fet fix is replacing an electronic componenet in the resistor pack that fails, same as they replace when you send it off for repair.

20 amp fuse is ok as when I short the blower motor, it runs fine. Think it's a Renault issue :(

Mines gone tonight on the way home from work. Ordered the FET off ebay for £4

Fixed tonight, all good :D

I would recommend a solder sucker to remove the old fet, its a bit of a b*****d to get it out without one.

Did you buy one from pal or ukmac?

I bought 2 from pal and they both failed and I've ordered 2 from ukmac in case the first 2 were a duff batch.

Also ordered a complete resisitor pack in case mine's fubar'd and keeps blowing the new fets.

I had this problem with mine last year, it went in the winter and trying to defrost/demist the windscreen is a b*****d.

Tried the diy mosfet fix which failed so i got a second hand resistor pack off a boy on here which worked.

Now its gone again which i think is due to cold weather, if i leave the heater blower on full, it will eventually come on, but instead of coming straight on at full, it will build up. Then if i go over a bump it will cut out again.

I can also hear the fan motor ticking when the heater is on?

Received my used resistor pack today and it's been working fine all afternoon. I've got 2 mosfets from a different supplier, not sure whether to try one in my faulty resistor pack.

Anyway, the resistor mosfet repair doesn't always work. It could've been my soldering, but I doubt it! First problem was no fan, second and third problem after replacing the mosfet was full power fan only! May send my ols unit for repair and keep it as a spare.

Thanks for all your replys.

Ian.
