Help fitting renfort gearbox circlip

Hi. This might sound daft, I’ve loosened the original round circlip and I can’t get it out the hole but I’ve seen that you can do
It without stripping the box ?
Am I Missing something [emoji23]

Why are you trying to get the plate out anyway mate?

I thought it had to removed to fit the renfort. Bit as I said maybe I’ve lost the plot [emoji23] trying to sit the new plate on top of that plate it won’t sit right hence why I thought that needed removed and replaced.

I could be completely wrong here, but isn't the thing you're trying to remove a form of renfort plate? Just a different style (4 bolt rather than 8?).

A 182 box?

Not sure. Mines is a 172 jc5 box. I’ve been recommended to fit the renfort at its a track car I’m building and it’s coming for the cv joint to pop out.

later box, the renfort plate is for the earlier box that doesn't have the diff that you've got. 182 box but some very late 172s had it fitted as well.

I did think for a minute maybe that was the same idea but then I thought it was the clip people spoke about.

I guess this box has been rebuilt before and they have fitted this one. Not long bought the car and it’s got no history with it.

Once again thanks guys. Will bolt the plate back in tomorrow and keep the one I bought for another gearbox if I ever need it [emoji2357][emoji2357]
