Help needed....includes video :)

My 172 Ph2 is f**ked it seems. Was driving along then suddenly it sounded like a motorbike. Noise is comming from head and its popping and banging like a b*****d from the exhaust. The car actually idles and drives. Also the engine bay stinks of petrol.

Any idea?

Could be a fucked exhaust gasket or head gasket. If you have a little tiny leak it can get significnatly worse as the gasses essentially flame cut the tiny hole into a massive one.

Stick your hand around the back of the engine to feel for pulses of ex gas.

Or do a leakdown test.........comp test if thats all you have.

i did spray some soapy water towards the back of the engine at the exhaust manifold, it made the car stutter and cut out with a poof of smoke lol

just held my hand behind the engine while it was running. seems to be leaking from near the coilpack. not as far down as the exhaust manifold mind. Around the head area.

With gasses coming out at that sort of speed, it'ld be hard to use rough puffs as an indicator of where its coming from.

If you get a leakdown test done you'll be able to isolate the exact area.

spark plug went flying lol changed the plug and fitted a new set of HT leads and its working

The same thing happened to me... When travelling 70mph down a dual carriage way!

Pooped my pants at the time, plug number 2 had blown out and the lead in 100pieces
