how many miles?

  182
Looking through for sale sections im noticing the earlier 172s have average mileages around 70-105k miles.

My current mx5 has spoiled me a little as its a 1995 but only has 25k on the clock,100 thousand miles sounds scary so is there anything to avoid on a high mileage car?Any point at which itll just fall apart on me?

My dads putting some cash towards the car but hes picky when it comes to choosing cars and is very uncomfortable with me looking at cars with anything over 80 thousand miles on it.

Am i worrying too much?

Aslong as its had a full service history then high miles shouldn't put you off too much. Make sure that its had the major services done and the belts changed. Take it for a test drive and keep your ears open. Check the tyres/brakes for wear obviously as a haggling point and also if you can check that the shocks are ok. Its not common but mine is around the 85k mark and the rear shocks leaking and I know of other clios where the shock have started leaking at similar miles. The only real thing that may be worse for the miles would be the rattles lol. There are clios around on 120-130k+ miles that are still running well.

Ive just bought a phase 1 172 with only 59000 miles on the clock, in mint condition, with full service history and all belts just done, got a bargain too at £2400, so there are some nice cars out there you just got to keep looking ;)

  ph1 black 172

I think I'd keep the MX-5 tbh.

Better car all round, even if it's not as quick.

Haha, ill be keeping the mazda too!The mazda had 18k on the clock when i bought it a year ago so ive put 7ish k on the clock, got really lucky with it,found at the back of a garage where it hadnt been driven for years.

Looks like condition is more important than mileage.
