How much with Recaro's affect my insurance?

  Golf 7.5R & Clio 200
Hi

Just had a thought. I have recently purchased a 200 cup, with Recaro's.

Got a quote of an extra £360 ish on top of my existing policy, but I forgot to mention any optional extras -.-

im assuming I'm going to get fisted by admiral for this, not picked up the 200 yet so noticed in time.

I'm going to mention the Cup spoiler and Recaro's when I call to instate the policy, but would you bother mentioning something like air conditioning? That was an option in my car. And the alloys too.

As they are factory fitted they shouldn't increase it.

They never when I told them about my 200 Recaros.

Fingers crossed! Just had a thought they always ask about modifications or optional extras, I will mention them, probably not air con etc though

I hate to sound dodgy but if you tell them you're mental.

I don't advocate not telling insurance about mods but they will charge you just because you told them. Not for any real reason.

An engineer looking at the car will not have a clue about those seats!

Again I agree with this. IMO if its fitted in the factory it's standard.

Seriously mate you're giving them an excuse to charge you. They may not but it's a risk you take I suppose.

I work with insurance companies and insurance daily.

When I tired to tell them about auto lights/wipers in my Audi they said they couldn't find them on their list. LOL.

Ouch £360 for adding recaro seats is crazy.

It could be worth switching to a modified vehicle policy. If you wanted me to run a quote though for you I'd be more than happy to help. You could PM me your number and ill call you personally or you could call me on 01277 376000 just to see what we can come up with. Our policies also give you track day cover option and the usual full comp benefits.

with our modified policy you could add unlimited modifications all throughout the year free of charge. (Price only changes if you drastically increase the BHP) You could even just PM me via the forum when you add more mods and ill update you policy.

I think admiral only charge a £47 cancellation fee so if our modified policy was a lot less it could pay to swap over.

either way wish you all the best with the car and hope you have a great Christmas.

would you tell your insurance company your Gallardo has the optional factory wheels instead of the normal ones?? or you A4 has 19's instead of 17's (factory)

no

oh and random fact of the day, Trophy recaros aren't leather, they're synthetic leather aka vynil

If you told your insurer about the mods and they replace on like for like basis (like we do) that's worth it. Especially if there is no extra cost to add them.

The trendlines aren't leather? Would never of realised that went out in a trophy few months back and would of bet money it was leatherleather:eek:

Do insurance companies know what extras come on each car from the factory though... If its oem stuff would they know it was fitted after leaving the dealers?

Neil what kind of evidence would you need to prove you had the seats in the car or any other mods put on the car !!!

We just take a list of modifications from the customer at a quote stage and then the customer could update this list at any point during the year.

all the modifications listed would be covered on a like for like basis. So if you fit coilovers and then have an accident when the car is repaired it would get coilovers again.

We specialise in modified cars so factory options are not a problem at all for us. If you list the factory options with us as well as the modifications then you will get the car back exactly how you had it should a claim occur.

we don't charge extra for mods (or factory extras) unless the BHP is drastically increased so you can list everything without the worry of inflated prices.

My policy doesn't cover mods like for like, and i doubt most do. So i wouldn't bother. My first car had induction kit, 17's, sub and aftermarket cd player. When it got written off they didn't give a toss lol at the time none of this was declared as i was only 17 and didnt knowi had to tbh.

If its got a renault badge and its on a renault no one will have a clue.

They will not cost a penny extra to declare if you pick your insurer wisely.
