Hubcentric spacers, a question

  Looking for 182
Hello,

I understand that hubcentric spacers are the best option to go for, as they're safer because the weight rests on the hub as normal, rather than on the bolts when using a non-hubcentric spacer.

Now, am I right in thinking that a hubcentric spacer comes with bolts which allow you to secure it to the existing hub. The spacer then has 4 more holes which you screw your wheel into using your existing wheel bolts?

Is that right?

Next on my list of things to do is to measure from the top of the wheel to the arch at the front and rear, and then minus around 5mm from that. That will give me the right size spacers to get, yeah?

Sorry, I know nothing about spacers but I realise that I need/want them :)

There are two types of hubcentrics you can buy:

1. Spacer Bolts to hub, Wheel bolts to spacer. 8 Bolts used.
2. Spacer sits between wheel and hub, longer bolts are required for this. 4 Bolts used

IMO, anything over 10mm should be the bolt to spacer type.

Have a search for pics of 182's with spacers on here. Will give you an idea of how much 'poke' you'll want.

Cool, thank you, so longer than 10mm should be option 2, where you use 4 longer bolts?

Does this mean you cannot use locking wheel nuts? Or do you just have to buy longer ones?

I'll measure tonight (sounds dodgy) and come back and see what people think I should get :)

Thanks

Nope, if longer than 10mm, bolt spacer to hub then wheel to spacer.

Don't think you'll be able to use locking wheel nuts. IMO option one is best all round. Safer and can use you original nuts on the outside.

^ But the smallest size you can get in the "bolt to hub" type is 20mm so majorly confused now lol

I have 15mm mm spacers and longer nuts? Do you think this is a problem?

Personal opinion. Some say yes, some say no. Personally, as long as the spacer sits flush with the hub, and the bolts are good and no vibrations when driving there shouldn't be a problem.

Would big brands sell them if they were?

Although you may want to invest on longer bolts ;)

All this "don't get longer bolt spacers" thing is strange - I bought 15mm H&R spacers on here, just haven't got the bolts yet!

…..or you replace the bolts with a stud kit and you can use whichever length of spacer you desire. Have a look on Pure Motorsport’s site.

I am getting a few sets made at work, They will be the hubcentric type using system b (bolt to hub, non of this extended bolt rubbish). We have alot of experience in making this type of thing, 2 years ago we were making parts for renault f1, we currently do work for spyker cars, Land rover, Kia and toyota. I haven't fully priced it up yet but they will hopefully be around the £60-70 a pair. Looking at a few threads i can see that 15mm seems to be the most popular so the 1st batch will be these although i will consider other sizes if people let me know ;) cheers Dan
