Although no pics yet!! It only came today! I did give my spoiler a going over just to try it out (as you do :) ) and very impressed with the results :approve:

  Focus RS + S3
is this whats best for a beginner? im new to all this but i'm wanting to correct my paint on the car and get rid of swirls and hazing etc
thanks for any advice (and apologies for the thread hijack lol)

let us know how you get on with it :)

It would seem that way mate, its highly recommended for newbies (myself) as well as the more experienced!

From my initial go on my spoiler, its certainly made a difference to the clarity of the reflection in the paint, and removed alot of swirling/haze :) Will update when I've done some more!

Instead of straigth forward polishing mate look into "glazing" "glazes" via machine aswell with a finishing pad. Or even do it after polishing just to nip out the little imperfections that are still there. :)

  Golf GT & A4 Avant
as above I found myslef using my DA more for pre wax cleansers as they cleaned the paint up nicel ready to wax, as well as doing a little filling like a glaze would with something like SRP, lime prime etc

Chris your more than welcome to practice on my Ph1 when i get it :D Will offer you some Beer tokens of course ;)
We'll see how I get on first lol :)

Did my bonnet today using the Menzerna compound and polish from the cleanyourcar kit http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polis...ion-polisher-menzerna-intro-kit/prod_721.html and it has come up very well, although its pretty stonechipped :( Im still finding my feet and discovering all the different products out there, not even touched on glazes etc yet! Care to ellaborate for a newbie?
I noticed theres still a few VERY light marks in some areas, not quite sure how to get rid of them yet :S Advice would be great :)

Also let rip on the gf's mk3 Polo (red) which is very faded and flat, so had a go at that with some different pads and my god its come up so well, she's amazed lol
Ive got a few pics of this, but none of mine yet! I'll get them up in a bit.

Need to change that then ;)
;):rasp: Smart arse!! True though....maybe "Driven more than detailed" ?? lol

A few of the Polo, the paintwork is generally pretty s**t in all aspects, full of marks, chips and blotchy bits which would need rubbing down, the works!
The wing's state, same as the bonnet was

Dont worry, the bits that were being done and surroundung areas were washed, clayed, washed and dried before hand ;) It was a trial so didnt wash the whole thing!

I'm ordering a das-6 next week, is it worth going for the pro for extra buck or not?

Will be my first da, price difference is like £50 I think.

as above, I've gone for the standard one. ill probably upgrade to a rotary of some kind after a years use

between the standard DA and the pro? I think it used a more powerful / torquey motor that doesn't bog down as much under heavy load, similar to the revised megs G220.

I kept mine for about a year then went on a couple of training days before moving up onto a EP800 rotary from cleanyourcar but I'm already wanting the 3m polisher.

seeing JD pop in has just reminded me, I've been asked to be a BWAB again on an old Jag with no clear coat paint. trying to talk them out of wanting me to polish it and just clean and seal it or go somewhere to get it done properly. Can't be doing with the worry of getting it wrong

Makes me laugh when people think you're mad for buying a 'polisher' and spending quite a few notes on detailing products. Yet not one person would argue or see fault with your purchases if you did the above to the bonnet of their car!

Good effort. :)

That's a lie then. It's a totally different machine really. The G220 is one of the original DA's.

I'll save the £50 and put that towards polish and other goodies then. Ta muchly.

This is going to be my first da, how hard is it to f**k up? lol. I've got a couple of old panels I can test on, don't want to massacre the LY.

One final question before buying, should I buy a paint depth gauge? Seen some basic ones for around £60. Cheers for the help.

Are you planning on doing any heavy correction? Ie 2-3 stage polishing system, compounding and finishing. I hope not.

Buy a light polish and a glaze, polishing pad and finishing pad and you'll be fine. :)

No nothing major, just swirl and light scratch removal, there's only a couple of light scratches where my ex smashed her heels against the sill. Looking at a kit which is the das6, poorboys ssr1 and ssr2 for £115. Then seal with Chemical Guys Wet Mirror finish and then Poorboys Nattys Red wax (by hand).

Cheers, that was my only worry. Wasn't sure if it was worth getting a pdg for a DA. Might be asking for a Das6 for the birthday :D

Cheers for your help gally, really appreciated.

Will get all the gear ordered next week, budget is £200 so that fits nicely! Using Nattys as my mate bought me some at Autosport at the weekend as a thanks for taking him (got free tickets) and his cars off the road, and he's seen me using Natty's Blue Liquid before. Will be looking at some Zynol later in the year by the looks of one of the threads on here.

Yeah Natty's will look great mate. The kist are a false economy sometimes. The menz pads are poor and the sonus polishes aren't great so good to get a glaze instead and fill the remaining swirls. :)

It is. I found it on par with German paint.

They both have "hard clearcoat". It was a new paint back then. From roughly The 172 PH2 onwards mate
