replacing this (urgh)

Feels better, seems to pull at high revs better (I'm sure there's some ram effect from the CAF?), definitely sounds better. Rolling road early September will say if it really does perform better.

For the cost, this is a great mod IMO.

Cheapest place for these filters is Merlin Motorsport iirc.. they do a little CS discount if you ask nicely ;)

Adding it all up for the first time;

£50 Airbox
£40 Filter
£23 CAF + jubilee clip
£-13 selling old filter + ITG panel

£100 Total

Worth it? For a Cup owner, I think so.

yeah thats what i was thinking, your going to contaminate all that cold air from the rad and front of the block

Looks good but isn't that CAF going to be affected by hot air from the rad?

Possibly, but I'm optimistic that the fact that I have almost doubled the capacity of the airfeed into the filter, and also that the doubled-in-size-airfeed itself is going to be having a 60-120 mph wind forcing itself in and through the filter to the engine...should offset the air density reduction from any temperature gain.

We'll see when I get it dynoed.

Surely the grill disrupts the airflow, i always thought it was quite important to get a smooth airflow, though i'm prepared to be told otherwise:)

I think it looks good markcup exactly where i was going to put my CAF when i get my filter sorted. It must be ok because the CAF is going to be heat resistant surely so would stop the heat getting in can you notice a difference compared to the standard filter also where did you get all the parts to complete it cheers

Not convinced this CAF lark makes any difference either

Seen now i run my BMC without a CAF to begin with, sounded far to loud (and quite s**t) and had no go at low revs - almost like the engine was taking in too much air(?), but with the CAF it has quieted down and feels much more torquey through low-medium revs. Just my experience tho.

Aye probably because you were leaning off due to far improved air flow and now youve restricted it back again the fuelings returned to a more balanced level hence the difference in performance.

Respect for trying something new and until its been RR'd know one will know but first impressions of that CAF is the air has to A, travel quit a distance to what it would normally and B, go back along its self in a unnatural looking direction in relation to airflow direction

looks good but i would have ran the feed into the fog or wheel arch. where it is now its blocking the path of cold air to the plenum, it runs too far and it doesn't look as good. imo.

To be honest Mark we all know you dont f**k about so do the right thing get a 45deg pipe stick the battery in the boot relocate the airbox & have the hole pointing towards the headlight area, no CAF required. don't think youl gain anything on an RR from just a panel filter, but we will see

It travels further yes, but straighter and with more force/flow compared to how these two restrictive feeds bend and turn surely?

Yes but your relying solely on ram effect to push the air right along the pipe and ram dosent occur to something silly like 130 mph

Say if it was a short CAF pointing up it would just be a case of the air blowing in to what ever direction and feeding the filter

You're the first to give me an indication of ram air effect and speeds :approve: I've not known hence the question marks.

This whole exercise is purely speculation on my part. I saw the space, thought this would work so I've bolted it on...I'll find out if it performs :D, or if I'm just sucking my own d**k :( .
