Right, Im wanting to start doing some Mods to my car.

I want to get it lowered, new wheels and Window Tints.

As I am not too mechanically minded could you give me some advise, tips etc. Parts I might need to get the lowering done????

Also any other suggestions of what to do to the car.

As you can imagine I will be doing these Mods slowly as and when funds permit so suggestions on what to start with and approx prices if anyone knows.

lowering springs 40-60mm

OZ F1's for wheels 15 or 16"

personally i wouldnt put tints on

clear side repeaters and silvervisions and mk2 ph2 rear lights

job done

lower it 60mm, springs and shocks ideally, but just get springs for the mean time if you cant afford them, £100-£250

not sure on tints, as for wheels get somthing like the ph1 172's that have oz f1 cups...

Sounds good so far - where would I get these parts? Would you get a mechanic to do the lowering?

get mate to do the lowering if possible will save you about £60-80. Check the for sale section for parts etc

ebay is always good too

Ha I dont really have any mates that could do this sort of thing......most of my mates are girls and not into their cars or mechanics.....
Might have to bribe someone on here to do it for me.;)

It might be worth getting someone to do it for you Laura - as you said, you're not particulalry mechanically minded, and without a lift/pit it'd be rather difficult to do.

You'd probably be without your car for a few days if you were lowering it.

Change of alloys, and lower profile tyres - 16s personally.

I don't think you should tint - can look a bit chav.

Clear side repeaters are a must - look awesome on my 182.

Also, get some of them silvered indicator bulbs for your front and rear lights - gets rid of the "fried egg" look on clear indicators.

Cool all sounds good to me - What do you mean by side repeater's?

Also do you have to declare these sorts of Mods with your insurance company and if so does it make much difference to your premiums.

side repeaters are the ones under your side mirrors - they're orange plastic on your pic, while you can get clear/white plastic ones - or even smoked ones if you so decided. i think the white/clear option looks the best personally though.

As far as insurance goes, you should notify your insurance company of ANY modifications you make, so yeah, changing the covers probably won't affect your premium, but they need to be notified of it. Chaning bulbs on the other hand, you don't have to - I guess you know what I mean about the "fried egg" look? The orange bulb with a clear indicator housing looks a bit pants! First thing I did when I bought my clio - swapped them for silvered bulbs (they flash orange still though) - looks 100% better.

Cool - thanks for all the useful info, I have plenty to think about there. I think the tints are probs a no no though......I was also wanting to change the 16v badges to silver ones If I can get hold of them.

Just need to get some pennies together now......

I'm guessing that you aren't that old (probably about my age, 19-20 right?) and I can understand the desire to change things, but in all honesty your car looks really nice as it is - is there really any point in modifying it and spending all that money? Why not wait a couple of years and let the NCB build, let the savings build and just get a nicer/faster car. Maybe I'm old before my time, but that's why the only Mods on mine are Silvervisions and a K&N filter; I'd rather save money up and use it for Uni and eventually a better car at 25.
