Insurance with Roll Cage

Does this affect insurance much??

Basically I've been doing some research and I know having coil overs on the car doesn't affect my premium much, but I was wondering how insurance companies view roll cages?
Do they assume that you're going to be racing in it, so whack up the price of the premium massively?

I would have most definatley thought so, i cannot understand folk that put them in if the car isnt destined for track use.

Same with tow hooks, if its not on a track or being pulled onto an AA flat bed then why have it? :S

Adding a roll cage will rule out most UK insurers, even some specialists.

My company have no problem with roll cages but you are lookig at around a 15% load on the premium.

So why do Roll Cages have thsi much effect, when coilovers (in my case) would hardly affect the policy?
Surely coilovers/lowering would put you in the stereotype that you are a "boy racer"?

The way you are perceived to drive with a cage fitted is only part of it:

1) People with roll cages are likely to push their car that little bit further, therefore 'caged cars are crashed more often, therefore there are more claims from 'caged cars than non 'caged cars.

2) Having a crash in a 'caged can result in more damage to the vehicle than in a non 'caged car, the reason being is that the cage can distribute the energy of the crash around the chassis therefore the car with the cage is more likely to be written off/the cost of repair may be higher than a non 'caged car

3) Personal injury claims from 'caged cars are much higher than from non caged cars due to body parts connecting with unpadded areas of the 'cage.

Ahh suppose that makes sense!

Is there a difference, insurance wise, between a roll cage and show cage? Or ae they just put under the same bracket?

Depends on the insurer, if you are trying my company, and you have a 'show' cage, it is well worth making the distinction between this and a full roll cage.

If I was getting a cage, i'd be looking to go with someone like brentarce. Might cost a bit more (well for me they were) but I wish i had gone with them, they make life so much easier it seems. They told me I can do anything and just put a power cap on it, pay more for bigger power, all other mods are free inc cage.

I'm with skyinsurance and my insurance went up £125 when i declaired my full weld in roll cage.

Its more than i was expecting but my overall premium isnt too bad with the large amount of mods i have to the clio.

With Skyinsureance its very easy to make changes to the policy. so if you go with them now and then get the cage later on its easy and cheap :)

You will have a jobon with Admiral - They're not keen on modified cars. Why don't you ring them? Are you frightened of the telephone ;)?

The two companies were Adrian flux and Brentacre, but they were on specialist modified policys so that is the reason why there was no issues I presume :p

Not going to bother until I know that this group buy will defo be going ahead, it takes ages to get through to thier csll centre.
But tbh, they've been pretty good with my mods, especially on my old 1.2 and have been the cheapest by a long way the past 2 years.
I wanted to know yours though, so that I know where to go if they say that they won't insure me with a roll cage.

Modified policys are the way forward if you have a modified car (obviously lol).

Still ring them, they can tell you where they stand with roll cages/give you a quote to have one added to your policy. You don't have to pay anything out to get a quote.

Yup I will do at some point.

I think I'll be going down the modified insurance policy when this one runs out in February.

Cheers man.
