YOUR CHANCE TO DRIVE SOME OF THE BEST CIRCUITS IN THE UK FOR JUST £70 WITH EVOACTIVE!

If youve never taken your car on track before then its time to get
yourself along to one of our Trackday Introductory Courses.

Run by Auto Expresss sister magazine evo, these courses are designed to
teach you the basics of circuit driving.
Not only will this give you an insight into the skills of a racing driver,
it will also give you the chance to learn about the handling
characteristics of your car on the limit, and in complete safety.

The half-day course begins with a comprehensive briefing covering all the
important things you need to know about trackdays - basic car preparation,
flag signals, the racing line, overtaking etiquette, the works. Then one
of our team of highly qualified race instructors will take you around the
circuit, stopping along the way to examine in detail the
cambers, bumps, turn-in points, braking markers and apexes of each part of
the track.

Next its into your own car, following an instructor around the circuit to
learn the correct cornering lines and braking points. After 20 minutes of
this youll find your pace picking up. Back in the pits youll have the
chance to chat through what youve learned with an instructor before
going out on to the track again to put it all into practice on your own,
before a final debrief with the instructors.

Yeah, I saw this advertised in this months Evo magazine. Does seem good for beginners. I am not sure whether I am going to put off going on a track until I can get myself insured.

What is everyones opinion on track day insurance ? Many people taken up this option ?

  Renault Laguna Coupe

http://www.motorsport-events.co.ukMotorsport events do a similar thing, I think its £80 for a whole day. A few of us from here did one a while ago - good laugh and learned loads.

I doubt many people can afford proper trackday insurance Dai, it costs almost as much as the trackday itself if you want effective cover.

Yeah I have found that out Mike, my mate had a quote of £500 for his new MGTF to do a trackday ! OUCH !

Is it a nervous experience doing a trackday with no insurance ?

Waste of money IMHO

A track day costs me 12 pounds...there are always experienced drivers who are moer than willing to show you round the track, and many of those guys are racing drivers, so they really know their stuff.

with regard to trackday insurance...whats the point? its VERY expensive and the risks are pretty low on the track...much much lower than on the road...just dont drive faster than youre comfortable

Fair enough, I suppose once I have done one trackday then I will understand the risks and see how safe it really is. I want to do one soon !

£12 for a trackday ? Where ?

Daipac its really not worth having insurance, forget it, remember its a track day not a race. Dont drive like a dick and youll be alright.

Just a word about Evo and motorsport events. Although they are both similar price, I would say they have a completely different aim. The EVO stuff is really an introduction to trackday, with (from the ad) explanations on racing lines and the lot, but it is in fact really short (1/2 a day of which very little self driving from their ad).
Motorsport academy day (which is what mike was refering to) is more a discovery of what your car is (breaking, slalom and all). The best bit was the cornering with lift of which was well scary but showed how much grip the car gets, something you probably wouldnt try on a track.

Now concerning the insurance, I am in the same boat, I would like to be insured during trackdays. That said as most people said, you really would have to be a fool to hit anyone. People (for the whole 1 trackday Ive done) were well mannered and at no time I felt that I would hit anyone (missed a cone by not much though) or being hit by anyone.

I would probably tinker around at 30 for the first half hour ! LOL !

Like I said, I just want to do an introduction first and then get on a proper trackday and then I am sure I will understand how safe it all is ! There must be a group of people going sometime this year ? Is the RenaultSport trackday at Bedford worthwhile or can you get better value elsewhere ?

Ahh I see viceroy, not the UK, that may explain a few things then, that is excellent value by the sounds of it.

I would recommend motorsport events, they are a v. nice bunch and I have been with them twice (academy day and bassingbourn). The advantage is that they use airfield, which implies a lot more runoff area than most circuit. On top of that they are pretty cheap. They just published their calendar for this year. One of their instructors races in the cup series as well I think. (he used to have a 172 the first time I went, which can only be a good thing ;))
