Late night pad bedding is what its all about

Definitely, cant wait to see what they are like. The pbs pads look quite glazed when removed after quite a bit of road driving, but can prob revive them with some 80grit. Im not expecting these m1177s to be great from cold, it will be a case of boshing stock pads or the pbs back in after Croft, then bosh the m1177s back in at Blyton.

Mega busy day today so brief update. Started early, fitted bilet cam and vernier pulley/timing chain to Extra van engine

20190526_135246.jpg

Next job was to change turbo on my gtt as leaking oil, absolute ballache as all oem brackets still fitted. Got new turbo on and tried to prime oil system and the fecking oil light would not go out after tons of cranking and oil feed was dry, so had to get the drill out, take dizzy out and manually prime the pump with my special tool. Ill repeat Ballache !!

Took hours longer than expected and looked at clock 8pm ! Oh s**t need to bed brake pads in for tomorrow so shot out in Kangoo. Ten miles of dual carriageway and 10x 70-30mph stints to break them in. Roads really quiet no cars about at all can tell its bank hol tomoz !

Let brakes cool whilst waiting for the big daddy chicken parmo to cook at local takeaway, 2x large parmos in a 12" pizza box;) shoot home to eat
20190526_210146.jpg

By this time its 10pm so straight back out to brim Kangoo tank with 99 octane, new pads work awesome far better than pbs.

Mega day at Croft on Monday in the Kangoo. In and out all day no issues, driving was a bit rusty in the morning as 8 month since last trackday but got the pedal down in the afternoon.

The Mintex M1177 pads were awesome, no fade and f**k loads of power, locked it up a couple of times late braking towards Clervaux and a bit of poo came out as thought i was going into the gravel. Pad backing has gone white from the heat ?

The new tarmac at Croft is great too, it used to be a tyre killer for n/s front, but now not bad at all. Was shocked to come back with legal tyres !

Loving them kangoo! Do you have any experience with yellow stuff? How would you compare mintex to it if yes?

Cheers mate. Never used ebc on a clio, have experienced them on the R5gtt’s though and not great. Stick to the good brands, ferodo etc (y)

Yellow/Blue/Red stuff pads are about as good as blocks of wood. I've driven a Clio with yellow and they were awful unless you jumped out your seat and used both feet on the b*****d pedal??

Gtt back together after turbo swap. Ready for mot tomorrow, 14 miles since its last mot in September 2017 ! Going to flush the coolant for fresh type d and change the oil tomorrow. The oil currently in it still looks golden but will still change it due to time off road.

Got up early today and started work on the gtt.

First job was to flush the coolant. It still looked nice and green but noticed a bit of sedament in header tank, flushed full system with hosepipe, rad and heater matrix thoroughly.

20190601_091303.jpg

s**t that came out when back flushing !
20190601_091858.jpg

Refilled with fresh type d
20190601_095118.jpg

Next step was to change oil, Total quartz racing 10/50 synthetic and new old stock Fram ph4546 oil filter out of my stash. These go for £25-30 a filter now as made of unobtanium, its madness
20190601_101018.jpg

Also changed the bung that holds the anti pwrc sensor into the turbo heatshield. Mine was not pretty
20190601_095008.jpg
20190601_095012.jpg

New one, note do not reuse on it, my old one was best part of 30 years old lol
20190601_084004.jpg

Fitted into Kevlar Bb performance heatshield, fitted this to replace the w**k oem one that smoulders after a top speed run.

Washed the dust off before mot, BH auto foam, followed by 2 bucket wash, and dried.

Typically 5 mins after drying it pissed down, just before i was about to set off. Good beadage though. First time its been out in the rain in years.

I have yellow stuff and brembo maxx discs with ate typ 200 fluid and braided lines.. I dont know what to feel about the pads, i mean they are better than stock tbf, but after continued hard braking, they feel a bit weird, and i'm not fully pleased with stopping power. But all in all they serve their purpouse. A bit smelly tho..

Taxed straight after mot, weather had dried up too. Needed to give the Afr's a check after fitting new turbo, so dug out my old Innovate Lm1 and sniffer clamp, still a superb bit of kit had it over 10 years. Still running great, 11.9 on boost/wot nice and safe.

Cheers mate, Its been cavity waxed by previous owner and had some coating sprayed underneath. I removed a bit of it and painted a few areas with Por15 a few years ago, needs topping up now though. Ill probably use Dintrinol this time, will keep you updated.

Ooooof, you need to get that angels tape onto MP3 so you can share it

If somebody can hook me up with an old tape player will rip it to mp3 no problem mate (y)this is the only tape player i have now.

Quick update

Washed Kangoo after Croft to get the shite off, jacked up and give it a once over, no issues to report. Changed brake pads over to ds2500 for road use, as the mintex are terrible from cold so not suited to road use. Feel like blocks of wood lol.
20190602_190924.jpg

Mintex m1177 look like they have been mega hot, paint has burnt off !
20190602_190847.jpg

Also give the washer bottle a clean up on the gtt lastnight, i have been meaning to do this for ten years. Checked level yesterday, and ran finger in and realised it was full of scum. Whipped it off and flushed it out, 1/4 filled with Apc and a handful of rice and shook it for about 20 mins, came up great. Also give the engine bay a wipe down, pipes everywhere on oem setup!!

Late update,

Give the gtt a clean up for Retro Show at Santa Pod on the Sunday. Had some Angelwax products in stock, so 2 bucket wash, prepped and a coat of aw desirable wax. Came up nice, cleaned and dressed interior trims, basically got as much done as i could in 4 hours as time was tight.

Done a couple of jobs i have been putting off for years too, for no reason apart from being lazy. O.e rear speakers were totally past their best, so stuck in some pioneer replacements that i bought at least 5 years ago ! Ten min job that i never got round to.

As sods law goes there was torrential rain in the afternoon after cleaning it, which made me reluctant to get it out the garage to put fuel in and test drive again. So on the Sunday morning, having only done 75 or so miles in the last 2 years, and not moved since last run out after mot, fired it up and straight to the garage for fuel and set off on the 220 mile journey to Santa pod. Had a flat ended screwdriver packed and AA card, if it breaks it breaks attitude, ill get it recovered lol.

Quick stop at Wetherby, cruising along sound.

Made the 440 mile round trip no issues apart from a slight hesitation when cruising. I have been changing ignition components to cure this as i thought it was ign related, however its still there so have come to the fact i really need to rebuild the carb, its done well 28 years on original gaskets so cant moan. I will do it soon and hopefully get it used quite a bit this summer hopefully.

But before i start messing on with that, the Kangoo needs a small bit of prep for CS festival, not a massive amount of work though. The mrs has been using the Kangoo daily and its been running great touch wood! Its all tight timescales as im off on my jollies on Sunday for a week, so leaves a couple of nights to get it ready..im sure it'll be reet.

Also got the mrs 225 ph1 back on the road a couple of weeks ago. So if you wonder why its been raining constantly for the last two weeks its because we have got the two garage queens legal again:LOL: just stuck it in for mot and it passed no bother. Changed shocks all round for new o.e cup/r26 and new skf top mounts on the front, paired with the cooksport springs that were already fitted. Nothing really wrong with original shocks as only on 67k however 15 year old so replaced, and its made quite a difference.

20190609_182002.jpg

With the new shocks, fresh Pilotsport 4 on each corner, all fresh bushes, balljoints & tie rods up front it drives absolutely awesome and ive fell in love with it again. Its raw enough to have tons of fun in, yet refined enough to go to the shops in. The brakes are absolutely epic with the Ferodo ds1:11's up front and you can put the power down great with the r26 lsd.

Might book Croft for it soon as we have a set of brand new Yoko A048's sitting there in the lockup that need scrubbing in !

Also random pic i found on my phone of the Kangoo on the daily use recently.

Great updates, the 5 really does look stunning ?

Cheers mate, its a good old motor. Glad i pulled my finger out and got it road legal again, as too easy to forget about it in the garage.

Just caught up on this. Great work as always, love all of them!

Cheers mate (y) If i had to sell all of them and keep one, i would have no idea which one to keep, as all totally different to drive, and enjoyable in different ways.

Absolutely stunning selection of vehicles, looking forward to catching up at Blyton

Cheers mate, cant wait to catch up and have a look at your new Meg4 Rs, its been too long (y)

Csf prep done,

Started off by adjusting the rear shoes, they needed minor adjustment after a full day at Croft. This needs a disc upgrade on the back really, but works OK for now. Adjusting the rear compensator to original settings last year made a massive difference to wear.
20190701_142017.jpg

Fresh RBF600 fluid, old stuff came out ok and it had done 2 & 1/4 trackdays (1/4 being 15 laps of Croft then the diff circlip s**t itself:rolleyes:)

20190701_151222.jpg

Fitted another brake reservior cap as mine was weeping out of the top/middle at Croft last time. See how this one fairs, i think i bought it new for my Extra van years ago bit same style/thread so boshed it on. Greased pms shifter bearing as had gone a little bit stiff for some reason ? Seems fine now though, will keep an eye on it.
20190701_160019.jpg

Just needs a wash off and fuel, and refit the M1177 at Blyton and good to go. Mrs is using it as a daily at the moment and it seems to be running superb ! Fingers crossed it will behave on Sat.

Thanks for reading and will see you all at the weekend !

I'm sure I've said this before. I hated mines but adore yours! Looks fantastic.

Cheers mate (y) i can totally relate to the dissapointment. When i bought this i plowed a bit of money in doing the belts and anything else that was shot. Took it to the local track for a quick blast and the handling was horrendous on the original suspension which was original dci shocks on mismatched springs when i looked into it, the the power steering pump failed, and exhaust fell off the same night.

Gutted but in too deep at that point so fitted the front cup shocks with mark fish eibachs, gaz rear and a bit of negative camber, custom exhaust & its been a riot ever since. I think it would be epic with an lsd and some ast's up front.

Only downside to it, was meant to be a cheapo project, but for what ive spent i could have had a sorted clio with all the right bits on it, and its a bit low to use as a proper van now lol.

Late one tonight, got in from work/gym and went out to clean Kangoo and Megane up, as not been cleaned for ages maybe 4-6 weeks.

Started raining as soon as i had got the jetwash out, could not fecking believe it. Cleaned the inside and packed instead. Rain eased off 7:45ish so cracked on and got both done by 9:30. Started spitting again straight after, if it rains tonight or tomorrow they will be staying mucky lol.

Post CSF update

Another successful Csf festival in the Kangoo, went round all afternoon without breaking, brakes held out spot on, tyres still legal, nothing much to report apart from it was awesome getting it on 2 wheels riding the kerbs, had a riot. Got a bit close to the cone at one point and clipped it which left a rubber scuff on my nearside front 2118 and the sill, took a bit of graft to get that off:LOL:

20190707_181638.jpg
20190707_181647.jpg

Mrs has been using it for daily driver duties since then. Noticed a couple of oil drips on our block paving, from selector seal as its a typical jc box and pissing out of there. So had a look today to see if it was just the selector or something else going tits up

Assume position
20190719_143841.jpg

Looked underneath and the Renault drip tray that was fitted underneath as a band aid to stop it marking the block paving has gone walkies, it was defo on before Croft so its either at Croft or Blyton:LOL:

Had another one in stock off the blue dci after fitting a full undertray instead, so cleaned up, and cut/glued a bit of cheap oil spill mat on it to soak up the drips, Its like fitting a nappy to it. I seen somebody using a sanitary towel recently which was even a bit too pikey for me haha.
20190719_143851.jpg
20190719_144519.jpg

Topped up the gear oil with elf nfj, to my suprise only needed 100mm or less hardly anything.

Give it a quick suspension check over whilst on the jack, no issues at all. Checked oil and fluid levels, oil is still on the max and golden, coolant still on the max.

Took it for a blast out to Steel City this afternoon, still love the stance.

20190719_171443.jpg

Still really unsure whether i should sell or just take it to the next level over winter, will see in the next couple of weeks i guess.

Had a few spare hours yesterday afternoon, so pulled the blue meg out and changed the oil and filter with elf evolution 5/40 & purflux filter.

With the meg out of the garage made the effort and got the gtt out, and give them both a clean. Used Bilt Hamber autofoam, it takes 90% of the muck off with no contact, awesome stuff. Its all go and no show, no ridiculous foam up, just works epic.

Not updated for a while, but sadly the Kangoo sold a few weeks ago. Miss it a little, but got the right money for it so could not turn it down.

In summary, an epic experience with it being my first N/A vehicle in ten years, cost a f**king fortune to fix all the faults and actually make it work/perform as good as a half decent clio.

I reckon i could have bought a sorted track spec clio with change left on how much this cost me:cautious:
Renault Turbo Blyton Park-207.jpg

I have first dibs on buying it back, my mate is a bit of a car hoarder like myself, and never uses his cars so i reckon theres a possibility it could return in the future..anyway im lumbered with fixing it for him if it breaks:cautious:

Anyway moving on,

Blue megane has had the timing belt, water pump, aux kit, new fuel pump and 15t fitted. Old cambelt and aux looked mint after 5 years/15k, the crank pulley did not look so good though!!

20190914_190235.jpg

Mapping booked for next month at Efi, hope the clutch holds out, but should see 300hp hopefully.

Had the gtt out of the garage last weekend, an epic blast over the North yorkshire moors, was highly enjoyable and great for the feel good factor. Its so much more fun to drive than look at in the garage, but time and life gets in the way sadly.
20190908_172256.jpg
20190908_173211.jpg

Had the yellow meg out the other day aka "the shopper" as all it seems to do is go on the f**king weekly shopping trip and never anywhere else lol. It flew through its mot the other day, only doing 1600 miles between mot's, need to get it used more as its a great car.

The Extra van progress is glacial, but have removed the old engine and been parts gathering. I have a rebuilt jb3 gearbox with quaife atb, Pms shifter, oldskool Leda front coilovers with solid top mounts, and treated myself to this as always wanted one:love:
20190911_183739.jpg

Ledas look substancial, the eccentric nut for adjusting camber is a great idea imo

Anyway best pull my finger out and get it sorted, as no track vehicle ready, and itll be back on track at CSF next year hustling you lads in the clios !
