Key doesnt work!

  ?
When i purchased the car I got 2 sets of keys, one was a spare. Checked that both worked in the ignition and both blips worked.

However, ive just realised one set doesnt work in the door locks! Im guessing the key itself has worn down but it looks exactly like the other...

Anyway, I was wondering if this is a common problem? and what I could do?

Also, Is it possible to open the key to change the battery? I cant seem to slide the cover off!

(mk2ph1 2001 clio btw)

Thanks

My central locking has never worked, apparently due to a common problem with cars like mine (mk2 ph1) whereby the receiver for the key in the car sits right below the aerial and if a tiny bit of water gets in it shorts it. So i cant be bothered to get mine fixed only for it to break again. To slide the key, you gota use all the muscle you have!! They are tightly shut, but make sure you do it the right way! Push the half of the key (the bit with the button on where the key ISNT attached) towards the end of the key in the direction of the arrow as hard as you can! I did this and now cant make it close again, think some sealent stuff is required! Hope that helps.

Sorry to hi-jack, but i have a similar problem with my key that, when i remotely unlock my car, 2002 ph2, and try to start, the immobilizer wont let me until i lock and unlock the car again with the blip. It only happens occasionally.

any ideas as to why this is happening?

push from the back of the key by the hole along the edge, on the bit that has the arrow on it.

once you get it off once, it will be easier next time.

chalk up your hands first, or get them as dry as possible for maximum grip!

edit: also im not sure you can change the blade over, as you may need to brake the plastic that holds it in place. although you could super-glue a new one in i suppose.

put a flathead screwdriver in the hole for the keyring and tilt it

GENIUS!

Thats exactly how to do it!

Today the remote locking broke anyway! so i popped into the garage, they kindly opened it up, checked the battery connections then closed it again... and it worked! They also showed me how to change the key blade! sucess

Thanks.
