Knocking at idle

My 2000 172 has developed a knocking noise ( sounds like tappets if i didnt know better ! ) when at idle and clutch is pushed to the floor. Doesnt sound like clutch bearing either and i cant hear it from under the bonnet , only from inside and i seems to be coming from the driver side. As i slowly lift the clutch it disappears , only happens when pedal is hard against floor. Any ideas ?

In my experience a clutch bearing tends to squeal and also this cant be heard from the gearbox side. Leads me to believe its not release bearing.

Will be a s**t if it is bearing :(

Most likely it is though, from your description.
