Knocking under hard acceleration.

Right i'm certain this is engine mount related (i've searched).

When under harsh acceleration there is a knocking/metallic sound coming from somewhere up front, when driving around it's all good!

So, which mount is worth checking first? One under the battery? I've read that it can loosen over time, is it obvious if it needs tightened/replaced?

Cheers!

Normally the gear lever will move too if its engine mounts. You can feel it normally if you keep your hand on the lever as you back off and put your foot back down.

Does this indicate its the gearbox mount mate?

Anyone have a link for the dogbone powerflex?

  Clio.
Had a couple of clios at my place where the customer had the same problem, always seemed to be after cambelt jobs at a nearby dealership.....both of them had the dog one mounts refitted upside down. It tilts the engine back ever so slightly and makes the manifold hit the arb.

Ive got something similar, slight knock felt and heard under braking and pulling away quickly. Have changed track rod ends, ball joints, dog bone is powerflexed, new gearbox upper mount, springs all look ok and the shocks seem so too. Theres no play when you do a wheel jiggle test by grabbing it and the arbs/rack bushes dont have play either as I got the pry bar in there. I'm starting to think its something to do with the brake pads I'm using

Can actually do it on any of them as they all allow the engine and box to move which in turn moves the selector the gear level connects to.

Is yours a ph1 or a ph2? its a different powerflex dogbone kit between the two.

A tip I was given was to loosen the top engine mount off, pull the engine as far forward as it will go, and then re-tighten.

Certainly improved my driving experience.

Hi bud. ive recently purchased a ph1 172 and had the same issue, turned out that the 'dogbone' mount was loose! a quick tighten of the bolts and it was sorted! there was also a knocking when turning left, that turned out to be the top engine mount (on the left of the engine) it had moved over so was knocking on engine block. adjusted and tightened and the car drives perfect now! check these first! :D

I had this after re fitting my engine over Xmas had bits back out and found the gearbox mount was not 100% tightened up so nipped it up and now it's spot on

Danny, when i bought my ph2 it had a loud banging knocking noise when i got to around 4k rpm and upwards.

Losen your engine mount on the left of the engine and knock the mount forward with a crowbar or something and then tighten it again.

Same for the one under the battery.
