Last minuite wonders ~ Urgent Advice please!

  "Navy" N17 TWO
I have spotted a car that a local dealer has agreed to go over the pond & source for me (with a deposit down to cover their transport costs).

The car I have spotted is from a dealer too, December 03 with 17k miles.
Just wondering what opinions people would have on the car as I might have a vehicle inspection done before I have it shipped over here.

The reason I ask, just have a "gut feeling" of something maybe not being right and costing a fortune when the car is on the forecourt & has my nametag on it.

Baring in mind the dealer has told me a service would be carried out and 15 month warranty put on top when the car arrives in their possesion;

Where would I stand if the car needed work before I took it out, would I need to pay for any work needed before I took the keys?

Already done that mate - everything fine :)

The mileage is very low for its age...I would be weary as this could indiacte previous engine trouble...

Also the car could have been left sitting around for years...and this would weather the vehicle...

I'm not having any 2nd thoughts at all for the reasons above (serviced here before I take it and 15 month warranty)

Just the old & wise people at home telling me not to buy a car "I myself haven't seen - its madness!"

Im just lookin to know where I would stand if any blips did pop up between transport & me driving off with it.

i paid 16k on a 03 Spec-C Impreza, and all i saw of it was 2 pictures!

madness, but she was a minter!

You should be ok, seeing as you have done HPI etc, plus the service and warranty you will get!

I was chatting to the guy in the dealers - they're sortin anything that needs done before I take the keys :D :approve:

I'm shocked that no one on here has commented on the price, usually they expect 03 reg cars to cost 5k lol !

Has an alarm :) Full UK spec, will get a Clifford into it anyway at some point.

I've been priced 8k including transport to N.Ire, service and 15 month warranty

Me and my family have brought loads of cars from Northern Ireland as that is where we are originally from before having to move across due to my parents work when i was a little boy.

But besides that every car we have looked into getting we have asked someone to have a look at it, and we always collect it ourselves. Cheap RyanAir flight and then the ferry back, that way all the paperwork and car can be checked over before completeion and if its a s hitter you can always say no and you have only "wasted" a little bit of money of flights over there, and you will save far much more money than them transporting it over for you!!!

Also it means that you get to meet the seller in person in case you do have ay problems you knwo who you are talking to on the phone as you have made that contact face to face with them showing that you will not let them just fob you off as you made the effort in the first place to get the car.

that is only what i have done tho, but i would suggest tryign to get someone to give it a good look over for you if you can!!

You're paying £8k for a 172 you've never seen?

Listen to your family.

I know its a fast car, and you're excited, but id wait and find one near you, for about 2k less.

I'd say about 95% of the 172s over here have came from the mainland - very hard car to find.

Seriously though, what could possibly be wrong with one of these cars at 17k miles?

I agree with Dan (Peperami tbh)

As for mileage, low miles means nothing at all tbh. For example I looked at a vee on 14k - it was sh*gged !
At the end of the day it's all down to how it's been looked after & driven, not what's on the clock.

Does sound a tad too much on the expensive side trev, i know you want a low miler but there are some about that would work out cheaper than that. even if it was a southern reg car and just got the reg transferd for next to nothing

Re: Worth the wait!

The car arrived on our shores last Thursday night, i went to see it on Friday morning.
All it needs is the outside temp sensor adjusted and a new engine cover - dealer is sussing it all out before pick-up :approve:

I am over the moon! :star:

Many thanks again for advice and words of wisdom on here.
Pics to come in the media section....
