lifetime cost of car maintenance - r5gtt

  Titanium ph1 turbo

I bought a 5 turbo on ebay 7 months ago which hadnt been advertised very well. After probing a bit with questions I was lucky enough to get a minter for £1500 which had a 50+yr old lady owner from new, with FULL history... and when I say full history, I mean EVERY receipt from new.

The downside was its covered 144000 miles, but I dont see this as a problem as theres been no expense spared in any shape, nor has the car been modified from standard. Ive owned 3 different 5 turbos in my time, and this is the only one Ive owned where when you turn the ignition key, it starts on the first rotation...

Anyway, being bored last night, I decided to document all the history from the paperwork into an excel spreadsheet to help keep a track of what work has been done at what date etc to help with future maintanence...

From entering the data, I calculated the total cost of maintanence since it was registered new in august 1989 came to a staggering £10492.23... thats £72 for every 1000 miles covered, or £655 per year.

I wonder how that can compare against other models from renault? So far Ive owned my 172 cup for 2 years and have spent approx £135 on a service, and £205 on 4x new tyres... thats in 19000 miles which works out £17.89 per 1000 miles, or £170 per year.

For anyone interested in the r5 datasheet, click http://www.asfw91.dsl.pipex.com/log/work2.htmhere

Obviously Im aware that the cost of maintaining the cup will increase in years 3 and beyond... does anyone else have any similar data from their cars, perhaps williams or valvers or v6s?

... chris.
